Hey, was wondering if anyone here has bought a subscription for Mega or the Illinois Lottery and did you ever hit big? The only thing I don't like about a subscription is you can't change your numbers if there are "hot" numbers. Is Quick Pick the way to go if you buy a subscription? I usually don't like quick picks and like picking the hot numbers...

You gotta remember hot numbers can go cold too. When they're hot they're hot and when they're not they're not.

    Kinda like Jerry Reed says:

Well me and Homer Jones and Big John Talley
Had a big crap game goin' back in the alley
And I kept rollin' them sevens, winnin' all them pots
My luck was so good I could do no wrong
I jest kept on rollin' and controllin' them bones
And finally they jest threw up their hands and said
    "When you hot, you hot"
    I said "Yeah?"

    When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
Put all the money in and let's roll 'em again
    When you're hot, you're hot

Well, now every time I rolled them dice I'd win
And I was just gettin' ready to roll 'em again
When I heard somethin' behind me
I turned around and there was a big old cop
He said "Hello, boys" and then he gave us a grin 'n' said
"Look like I'm gonna hafta haul yall in
And keep all that money for evidence"
I said, "Well son, when you hot, you hot"
    He said "Yeah"

    When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
You can 'splain it all down at City Hall
I say, yeah, when you're hot, you're hot
    You're hot

Well, when he took us inta court I couldn't believe my eyes
The judge was a fishin' buddy that I recognized
I said "Hey, judge, old buddy, old pal"
"I'll pay ya that hundred I owe ya if you'll get me outta this spot"
So he gave my friends a little fine to pay
He turned around and grinned at me and said
"Ninety days, Jerry, when you hot, you hot"
And I said "Thanks a lot!"

    When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
He let my friends go free and throwed the book at me
He said "Well, when you're hot, you're hot"

I said, "Well I'll tell ya one thing judge, old buddy, old pal
If you wasn't wearin' that black robe I'd take you out back of this courthouse
And I'd try a little bit of your honor on
    You understand that, you hillbilly?
    Who gonna collect my welfare?"
    (When you're hot, you're hot)
    "Pay for my Cadillac?
Whadda you mean 'contempt of court'?"
    (When you're hot, you're hot)

      ILLotteryman,

I've tracked Little Lotto and Illinois Lotto for several years (three years of Little Lotto, jackpot by jackpot, and two years of Lotto are here on the forums at LP, in the Pick 5 and Jackpot games forums).

A subscription hit is the rarest of the rare. It happens, but not often.

The most common Little Lotto hit is for $175,000 won by a QP in the Chicago or collar counties area.

Here's some info for you, IL Little Lotto:

      2010:

      150 Jackpots

      65 PP   43.33%

      131 QP  87.33%

      Solo jackpots: 114   76%

      Shared jackpots: 36  24%

      Highest jackpot:

$1,125,000 Split five ways on Sep 21, 2010

      Average jackpot: $231,386

Total jackpot money paid out to date: $34,708,000

      ____________________________________________________

These are 20008's and 2009's results:

      These were the 2008 results:

      146 Jackpots

      120 QP   82.19%

      91 PS      62.32%

      (includes shared jackpots)

2008 was a leap year. So in 366 days jackpots were paid out 146 times or every 2.506 days

82.19% of the jackpot winners were QP

62.32% were player's selections, or PS

      2009

      365 drawings, 157 jackpots, a hit every 2.32 days.

      To date:

      157 Jackpots

      132 QP   84.07%

      87 PS      55.41%

Total jackpot money paid out to date: $33,295,000

Here's the results for 2008, 2009, and combined:

      Two years combined

      731 drawings

      303 Jackpots

      252 QP  83.16%

      178 PS   58.74%

      Including 2010, three years combined:

      1096 drawings (2008 was a leap year)

      453 Jackpots paid

      383 QP  84.54%

      243 PP   53.6%

      This includes shared jackpots.

Looking at all three years it is pretty consistent, 146 jackpots, 157 jackpots, 150 jackpots. There is a drawing everyday and a jackpot is hit ever 2.42. days.

      2008

      82.19% QP  58.74% PP

      2009

      84.07% QP   55.41% PP

      2010

      87.33% QP   43.33% PP

      The stats speak for themselves.

      http://www.lotterypost.com/thread/206575/15

QP = Quick Pick and PP or PS = Player's pick or selection

There are threads for Illinois Littl Lotto Jacpots 2008 and 2009 that you can go through jackpot by jackpot to look for subscriptions winners.

      Good Luck.

Thanks Zeta very much for the quality information. Any thoughts on Mega Millions? The Illinois Lottery allows you to set up a subscription for that game too?

Also, thanks for the welcome Sully!

From the IL Lottery website Subscriptions page:

HOW TO START A LOTTERY SUBSCRIPTION

            Mega Millions

            1. You get 1 game per $1 played per drawing. You can play up to five games each drawing with your subscription.

            2. Pick five numbers from 1 to 56 and one Mega Ball number from 1 to 46. Or you can choose a Quick Pick, and let the computer draw random numbers for you.

            3. Pick the number of drawings you want to play. Subscribe for 26 weeks and receive one of those weeks free.  Subscribe for 52 weeks and receive 2 of those weeks free.

Good to know - at the end of that page:

HOW LOTTERY SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE PAID OUT

Small prizes won by Lotto, Little Lotto and Mega Millions subscribers are accumulated until the end of the subscription term and mailed to winners in one check. For Lotto subscribers, all $3 prizes (for matching 3 numbers) are accumulated and mailed at the end of the subscription term; for Little Lotto subscribers, all $1 and $10 prizes (for matching 2 or 3 numbers, respectively); for Mega Millions subscribers, all $2 (for matching the Mega Ball number only), $3 (for matching 1 of 5 numbers and the Mega Ball), $7 (for matching 3 of 5 numbers and no Mega Ball) and $10 prizes (for matching 2 of 5 numbers and the Mega Ball) are accumulated and mailed at the end of the subscription term.

Thanks for the welcome Dallas Cowboys Fan, I'm a Bears fan myself. :) The subscription sounds pretty good if you go 26 or 52 weeks because they give you a week or two free. Maybe what I can do is pick my own numbers for one line and do a quick pick on the other line that way I would a differential on numbers every time there was a drawing. Although one time I did two quick picks for the Powerball, I got the same money ball on both of the same quick picks bought at the same time and I wasn't happy about that!

I  don't think you get a new QP every drawing, a subscription is a long length advanced play. If you mark a ticket QP and advanced play you get that set of numbers for the number of plays you selected.

There's contact info. on the IL Lottery website, maybe you could ask them to be sure.

That's funny because I hear a lot of people say that quicks result in more winners but I watched the 'How to Win the Lottery' DVD and they actually quoted a study stating that if you pick your own numbers you are more likely to win and if I remember correctly it as like a 68% to 30 something % ratio. That's funny because I hear a lot of people say that quicks result in more winners but I watched the 'How to Win the Lottery' DVD and they actually quoted a study stating that if you pick your own numbers you are more likely to win and if I remember correctly it as like a 68% to 30 something % ratio. Any thoughts?

I think you might have heard wrong or misunderstood.

It's always the opposite of that.

                          70% QP's to 30% SP's or thereabouts.

You gotta remember hot numbers can go cold too. When they're hot they're hot and when they're not they're not.

                            Kinda like Jerry Reed says:

Well me and Homer Jones and Big John Talley
Had a big crap game goin' back in the alley
And I kept rollin' them sevens, winnin' all them pots
My luck was so good I could do no wrong
I jest kept on rollin' and controllin' them bones
And finally they jest threw up their hands and said
                            "When you hot, you hot"
                            I said "Yeah?"

                            When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
Put all the money in and let's roll 'em again
                            When you're hot, you're hot

Well, now every time I rolled them dice I'd win
And I was just gettin' ready to roll 'em again
When I heard somethin' behind me
I turned around and there was a big old cop
He said "Hello, boys" and then he gave us a grin 'n' said
"Look like I'm gonna hafta haul yall in
And keep all that money for evidence"
I said, "Well son, when you hot, you hot"
                            He said "Yeah"

                            When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
You can 'splain it all down at City Hall
I say, yeah, when you're hot, you're hot
                            You're hot

Well, when he took us inta court I couldn't believe my eyes
The judge was a fishin' buddy that I recognized
I said "Hey, judge, old buddy, old pal"
"I'll pay ya that hundred I owe ya if you'll get me outta this spot"
So he gave my friends a little fine to pay
He turned around and grinned at me and said
"Ninety days, Jerry, when you hot, you hot"
And I said "Thanks a lot!"

                            When you're hot, you're hot
And when you're not, you're not
He let my friends go free and throwed the book at me
He said "Well, when you're hot, you're hot"

I said, "Well I'll tell ya one thing judge, old buddy, old pal
If you wasn't wearin' that black robe I'd take you out back of this courthouse
And I'd try a little bit of your honor on
                            You understand that, you hillbilly?
                            Who gonna collect my welfare?"
                            (When you're hot, you're hot)
                            "Pay for my Cadillac?
Whadda you mean 'contempt of court'?"
                            (When you're hot, you're hot)

Thanks Rdg, that's what the DVD said, but I think it was from 10 years ago. I rented it online off of Netflix. I believe you guys though, just like my Hot Numbers method the best, not quick picks...
