Pick 4 players win historic prize total on “quad” 9’s
August 18, 2011Posted by Lucke-Zone at 11:44 AM
Wednesday night, the lucky number for Pick 4 players was 9-9-9-9. Many folks at the Raleigh claim center Thursday morning were there to claim prizes they won on the number. Diane Harrison, a payroll clerk from Garner, is one of 237 players who wagered $1 and won $5,000 when the combination was drawn.
Harrison said she was “in a little bit of shock” to win the $5,000 prize. After all, it was only the third time she had ever played the Pick 4 game. “It was just a whim. I usually play trip 9’s,” she explained, meaning she usually plays 9-9-9 for the Pick 3 game. “But I had an extra dollar in my pocket, so I figured ‘why not?’” Harrison said she planned to save for a vacation with the unexpected prize money.
In all, Pick 4 players won $1,807,500 in the drawing, by far the largest Pick 4 prize payout in N.C. Education Lottery history. The next largest came on the only other occasion when “quads” were drawn. Earlier this year, the number 2-2-2-2 paid out $645,000 on the March 16 midday drawing.
Total of 723 winners~ 237 of those winners won $5000~~ 237 x $5000= $1,185,000
$1,807,500- $1,185,000= $622,500 So if 237 winners played $1 that means 486 winners played for .50... 486 x $2500= $1,215,000
Maybe my math is off and someone can tell me what I am missing...
you aint miss a dayum thing...i bet if you went to wsoc news with this it would shake some things up....i do the calculations now and then just like you did just now and it never makes sense...ever !!! you are dead on point buddy, forward that to ncel and ask them how those figures are possible. they are never prepared for someone thats not stupid to question their tactics. i guess they think that everyone that plays the lottery is just plain stupid !!!

Hi Pls!
I called NCEL about this same thing last time. Notice on the website, they say winning shares instead of winning tickets. They count the $1 tickets as 2 shares of $2500 and the 50¢ ticket as 1 share of $2500. This is how they make it look like more "tickets" won on their website. When in reality, only 486 people actually won:
237 shares x 2500 = 592500
237 shares x 2500 = 592500
249 shares x 2500 = 622500
Total is 723 "shares" not tickets which is really deceptive.
