So as not to hi-jack joker's thread I thought we could discuss what money can and can't buy.

When I worked in casinos the most common discusion was where to go get a better job. We had one guy on our crew who talked about some of the hi-rollers we saw and said since they were living the good life and had the money to do it what they talked about was how to live longer!

Say you hit MM or PB and come into a huge score.

What can the money get you, and what can't it get you?

There's a line in an old Porter Wagoner saong that goes

Money can't buy back your youth when your old........

Discuss.....

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

      Cannot bring back youth

Did you exchange a walk on part in the war ?

For a lead role in a cage?

Money definitely cannot bring back someone who has passed on.

A lot of people think things will make them happy, material things, but that just leads to one thing after another after another that just didn't do it.

Here' the lyrics to A Satisfied Mind, fits the conversation:

How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I would do things my way
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind

Once I was winning in fortune and fame
Everything that I dreamed for to get a start in life's game
Then suddenly it happened I lost every dime
But I'm richer by far with a satisfied mind

Money can't buy back your youth when you're old
Or a friend when you're lonely or a love that's grown cold
The wealthiest person is a pauper at times
Compared to a man with a satisfied mind

When life has ended my time has run out
My friends and my loved ones I'll leave there's no doubt
But there's one thing for certain when it comes my time
I'll leave this old world with a satisfied mind

Money cannot buy exemption from weirdos and stalkers and busybodies who worry about what everybody else is doing instead of minding their own business.

Money can buy weaponry that can prevent those kind of people from coming on your property though.

          Thank God for that.

Thank God you credited the songwriters in your post.

There would have been hell to pay.

Maybe you better credit the Label and the producers and the recording studio to make sure you didn't break any laws or rules, God forbid.

Money can buy financial security. If you win a lottery jackpot, you don't need to worry about how to put food on the table or how to pay your mortgage or your rent.

Money can't buy happiness if there is something in your life that can't be fixed with money such as having a dysfunctional family.

It bothers me when anyone, not just you, makes a blanket statement that says "Money won't or can't buy happiness". That should be based on a person to person diagnosis. NOT everyone will be unhappy just because someone says they will, based on some statistic which means nothing to me.  There are plenty of rich folks out there who are very happy. Sure they have problems like the rest of us, but that's normal. Nevertheless, they're rich and happy. How come no one talks about them?

And BTW, If I have a dysfunctional family, money can afford me to get the heck away from them.

But to answer Coin's question, yes, money will buy me happiness because the ONLY thing right now that's not making me happy is lack of a lot of money. Of course I'd be happy with a few hundred thousand, but If I'm gonna dream I might as well dream big for millions.

But like I've always said, If you're sick in the hospital with a terminal illness, all the money in the world can't make you happy, except to make the remainder of your life as comfortable as possible..

This whole concept of not being happy is getting old. The people who keep saying this must have an alterior motive, or they have been conditioned over the years to repeat it without thought. You need money to live, period. If you're the type that's satisfied by making 30, 40, 50, or 60 thousand a year working until you retire, that's fine. But not me, I want to live life to it's fullest. We're not getting any younger, so why waste time with dumb cliches. In order for me to be at the most optimum, I have to be able to do just about anything I want, when I want, where I want, and with anyone I want. It's not rocket science folks. We live in a material world.

If money doesn't make you happy, let me see how happy you'd be homeless on the street.

And BTW, for anyone who thinks money won't make you happy, I'll gladly give you my home address in a PM so you can mail all of it to me. I want to be unhappy in my mansion on Malibu beach with my yacht parked at the Marina, and my 5 sports cars in my driveway. I'll just sit there pouting with my harem and cry my eyes out all day long thinking to myself, what the heck was I thinking? Then when it gets to the point when I simply can't take the pain anymore, I'll end up giving all my money away and go back to work at my miserable job for 12 hours a day making peanuts. WHY?, cause we all know large amounts of money won't make me happy. I'd rather work like a slave for the rest of my life and go on internet sites in my spare time and tell everyone how money won't make you happy because I'm brainwashed and jump on the bandwagon without thinking for myself....Yeah, great Idea...
