Ok, I have finally hit a tipping point with the instant games. I have been buying way too many lately and not winning a fair percentage back, so I am going to start a budget.

Starting next week, I am only going to buy $10 worth of instant tickets per week. I could get 10 $1 tix one week or 2 $5 or just one $10 ticket. But, I think my new strategy will involve buying tickets from different machines, places, etc.

What has your budget been for lottery instant games and pick 3, pick, 4, etc. games? If you win do you up your budget for the week?

Thanks!

My cousins budget is 1-2 rolls per 2 weeks. he only buys rolls and does not waste money chasing random tickets in the store. he is UP lifetime with the lottery, something like $5-6K. it seems to be working for him very well.

I think you lose most money when chasing random tickets.....

Hi James -  I like the random method, it works for me. I have never tried a pack of tickets. I wanted to but just didn't take the plunge. I just sat

and thought...a whole pack vs. random machine hits and thought I'm much better off doing the random hits.

Lotteryman...can I ask - if you are considering dropping down to $10..how much were you used to playing per week? You could answer like this, if

you want......Significantly more or slightly more. The reason I ask is this, if you cut down dramatically aren't you going to miss playing like that or

have you come to a point where you've really decided this is a losing proposition?

Oh I usually go out with $100, start playing and if I hit, I reinvest Big Smile It's easy to spend $100 on $20 tickets, it's only 5 tickets. But I like to get

around to more than one store and I have to say that I'm usually very lucky and can make some money. I play all kinds - but the $2's are doing

much better consistently in bunches of 5 - 10. If I put $20 in and win $40...I'm got my $20 back, it's like starting over again with $20 more. Sounds

like DUH but I don't look at it as being $40 ahead. If the machine or counter feels right, I'll keep on playing. I've got limits and will go home when

the feeling or tickets aren't right. After awhile, you can tell. If it's not there in the $5's and $10s' on the first couple out, then I quit. If it's not

there on the 1st $20 out, I'll quit that game...UNLESS the numbers look right on the loser. I do not go over 2 max $20's on one slot. I read

sometimes people doing 10 - $20's at a time. I couldn't do that just because I don't agree with that playstyle. I have no problem putting a $20

in for 10 - $2 or 20 -$1 tickets and doing that on multiple slots. I've had some mighty good winners on the $2's and some of those were first

          ones out.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!!

            ILLotteryman,

At one of the places we buy scrathcers (my wife is the scratcher player) the manager keeps saying "You bet dollars, you win dollars", meaning $1 tickets.

I wish I could convince her she'd be much better off buying a $5 ticket and taking a couple of days to scratch it than to grind out the occassional free ticket and $1 and $2 prizes from the $1 tickets.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

            Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Ok a budget does sound great.... But questions I have would buy them all in one day or would spead them out over the week??? Question 2 if you win say your $10.00 back would reinvest or call it a week????

Biggest lottery wins for 2013 $100 1 Time.......

I can't budget. I just keep looking at that $10 and thinking maybe it would be better put on a daily number for the week? lotteryman, do you play

                the daily's?

Thanks for all your help guys. To answer some of the questions, yes, I am beginning to think playing these instant games, especially in Illinois like Cooldude can attest to, is beginning to look like a losing proposition to me.

I would budget $10 a week for instants, and yes, I would reinvest them in other tickets if I won. I just really want to control my spending on the instants especially since I have not been winning much in Illinois.

I do play the daily Pick 3 and Pick 4 games, Powerball, etc. as well and I would budget $20 a week for those games.

I am seriously thinking about buying one book of the $200,000,000 Cash Spectacular game next week when I get paid. I keep hearing good things about this game but I am not winning at it :(

i am a new player, but i won straight out of the gate so i'v got it bad. Not until my 6-7th ticket did i ever see a loser. 46 tickets later, and only down $35 on $5 jumbo's, i scratched my first $500 ticket.   I personally feel that the scratch lottery offers the best odds for the type of gambling i want to do. I've played keno in casino's for years, and lost more cash than I could ever win back. Meanwhile, the jackpot on the machine for a total match is usually $1,500 or less.  After playing giant jumbo's for a couple weeks, i had already scratched my first $500 ticket. On a $35 investment. It's true, I've spent more and lost since then. Since my first winner, I've reinvested about $200-$250 and was down, but the last couple of days, I've scratched a $50 and then a $100 on the new JUMBO jumbo $10. I'm more and more convinced that the time of the month is crucial. I'm more and more convinced that there is a certain ticket range that most big payoff tickets are found within(this theory is what walked me back into the store for one more ticket when i won the $500), and I'm more and more convinced that scratch lottery is the only form of gambling that allows the player to strategize his approach. I've played the pick number games, using software, wheels, etc ... and never won a cent.

there are more details of my winners, losers, push's, and how I won $500 by "playing on the house", as well as "parking lot losers", how to win a jackpot without spending a cent, and more in the thread titled "looking for tennessee scratch players" .... good luck to everyone.

My idea, if I had the money to blow... to buy the next ticket of each game at that store. Twenty games, 20 tickets, that dollar amount would be the limit. Never mind if weekly or monthly - never more than one ticket off a roll at a time.

Personally, I'm thinking playing the low value pick three lottery or some such is a better value, if one takes the time to research it.

There appear to be glitches, particularly when a state starts a new lotto.
