Number hitting 3 times in a row isn't too outlandish, it seems to happen at least once in a month. 4 times in a row is pretty out there...I don't think it's happened before, at least not in the period of time that I've kept data (which goes back to a little more than a year)

I've seen a number go six times in a row once before a few years ago. Guess what game...California Fantasy 5.

And people wonder why I only bet a few bucks on this game. Simply for gambling entertainment.

Whatever guidelines the state lottery commission is using for fairness and auditing is Totally inadequate and needs to updated.

I lodged a compalint with the lottery itself using the above info with diplomatic wording. We will see if they respond.

In the past 1000 draws there has been only one other number which has repeated 4 times in a row---number 21.     At the same time, number 33 has been the least number for repeats in the past 1000 draws.

JKING,   they may respond.  When I wrote to the lottery coordinator about not seeing the un-sorted (draw order) results anymore----well, it was brought back in a week.  Past results show un-sorted, while the Download file is sorted.

                      Hi,

Congrats to you and Hot Sauce for your selections a couple days ago. Very nice. *S*

Mindtab, why is it that you only show what won't be picked rather than making predictions of what will be picked?

I'll try the following for 4/27...

                      1,14,21,28,35

                      3,9,16,28,39

                      3,15,21,24,36

You are a slave to the choices you have made.  jk

                        JKING,

It all depends on the analysis.  The filters and more.  If something shows it will be 'greater than x', it's a lot easier to rule out what WON'T BE.   If something shows 'less than x' then it will show what WILL BE.  I go through many different analasies.

And as a footnote----since the Fantasy 5 machines do not only employ hardware based generation of numbers, but also supplement it with algorithms, ....asking the lottery to change that, or look at that, would only send OUR past analysis 'down the drain'.  Yah, people would say, well, it's random either way.  Well, it's not. Up to a point only!

It is my understanding that the only "hardware" aspect of CA's Fan5 is whether to use machine A or B ... and the rest is some psuedo random process.

From the CA lottery website FAQs:

                            Fantasy 5 Drawings:
The draws are conducted using an Automated Draw Machine, which is a state-of-the-art computer used to draw winning numbers in a fair and equitable way.

The Automated Draw Machine is a stand-alone computer, which means it isn't connected to any other computer system. The computer's hard drive cannot be opened without breaking a numbered security seal. Inside the computer, the programs that generate the random numbers are permanently implanted or "burned in" and cannot be altered. Tampering with the system in any way is impossible.

The California Lottery has purchased three separate Automated Draw Machines, two are used for the daily draws and the third one is used as an off-site backup in the event of an emergency. Each day before the draw, a manual capsule draw is conducted to determine which draw device will be used - A or B. Another manual capsule draw is conducted to determine which randomization method is used, one being a mathematical algorithm and the other being a Random Number Generator. The numbers selected from either method are unpredictable and selected in an unbiased manner.

With this as their formula any analysis is down the drain ... in my opinion.

                              HotSauce,

The Fantasy 5 lotto became automated on july 1, 1998. My data file only contains drawings since then.

But on October 19, 2009, they changed by adopting the Smartplay system which uses both hardware and software (RNG alogrithms) for the generation of numbers.  <--- I could be wrong about this, but that is what I understood from various articles around the web.

The quote above from the calottery site has been the same since 1998.  They haven't changed the actual specification of the draw procedures.

                              Read this: http://www.lotteryinsider.com/Vol49/no3.htm#13

                              California Lottery picks a winner with Smartplay’s Origin™ System,  October 19, 2009.
