How come those numbers don't pay anything?  What?

Do a lot of people play like that?

That's a good question, Karinda

Wish I knew the answer - I can't believe that many people play quads on a daily basis!

If so, what a waste of $$$ - they rarely come out - maybe once or twice a year!

Would love to see the payout breakdown on 4444 - may have to go to the store and check it out myself!

Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping

The answer is simple : its because the states are greedy....just like in connecticut that has the highest gasoline tax in the united states at 70 cents a gallon...

Some states have a pari mutuel payout, which is dependant on the number of str8 winners.  CA is another state that has this format for their lottery....some payouts really suk (like today's P4), while others are well above the avg payout of $250/P3  $2500/P4 str8 for a $0.50 bet.  If you are not familiar with the format, here is an explanation:

          (13x-15x-17x-19x-35x-37x-39x-57x-59x-79x)---37.5%

          (02x-04x-06x-08x-24x-26x-28x-46x-48x-68x)---37.5%

Hmmm?  Or could so few people play like that that there's not that much of a pot?

I go back and forth with whether it's better the way New Jersey does it, or to know

how much you'll win when you win. But don't the states that do that stop selling

a number after a certain point? That's probably not cool either.  I'm talking like I

win every other day. LOL LOL  And I'm saying, 4444 didn't pay that much.

That's cause I didn't have a ticket. If I had a ticket, I'd be happy with the low payout

believe me.  Too bad it's not 599.00 because it has to be sent in to the State to

be cashed, right. I'd rather have the money today I think. Blah, blah, blah. Embarassed

Thanks calabs, ive read that before.... i was just kinda pizzzzed to see such a low payout for pick 4 when when you can get 10 times that amount playing on line ....basically the same goes with pick 3.... i like 900 bucks for a straight win.

                    good luck to you today

the basic "premise is" that it is all about stickin it to the consumer or in this case the addicted gamblers.

Well, the way this states Pick 3 and 4 are set up is pari-mutual - and guaruntees the state a profit for every draw.  When more people play a number, it wins less.  If less people play, it wins more.  You can take advantage of this by not playing commonly played numbers (most quads/triples, b-days, etc.) and only playing less commonly played numbers when you do play.

Other states don't do it that way - and they can lose money on any given day.  The other side of that is that they make more per day on those numbers when they don't show.

I wouldn't disagree with your assessment that states are greedy - and I know they could still make money with a 9000 to 1 payout (plenty of other sportsbooks do) but this is a state lottery, a monopoly, so they won't increase the payouts like that.

Thanks calabs, ive read that before.... i was just kinda pizzzzed to see such a low payout for pick 4 when when you can get 10 times that amount playing on line ....basically the same goes with pick 3.... i like 900 bucks for a straight win.

                            good luck to you today

100% Agree crow..... keep in mind that the payouts we post here are for a $0.50 bet.
