sorry to hear this.He had me rollin many a time when I was a kid!

            Hemsley was born and raised in South Philadelphia by his mother, who was a factory worker. He dropped out of school and joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years. On leaving the Air Force, he returned to Philadelphia where he worked for the Post Office(30th Market St.) during the day while attending acting school at night. He then moved to New York, continuing to work for the Post Office during the day while working as an actor at night.

              I worked at the same postal facility he did,I heard folks speak of him.
               He was Deacon Ernest Frye on the NBC series Amen
              The church building  on the NBC series Amen still stands in West Philly.
              Coincidently
               I was in the West Philly and
               passed the Church (thought of that series) a day before he died.
