Need help with Excel formula.
I have a paper and pencil lottery system where having current 'follower' information is critical to lottery number selection.
In a pick 3 game, there are 9 follower streams that I need help with to reduce the amount of time bringing the 'strings' up to date.
Each string is broken down into 'triples' and 'pairs'
There are nine fixed column headers for the triples and 3 for the pairs.
What I need is way to automate the process whereby each time I add a number to the main string, the formula recognizes what triple is formed and the appropriate column is updated by addition of the third digit.
As for the pairs, any time a digit is added to the string, the formula would recognize what the follower is and add the appropriate digit to the Pairs column.
There might be a better way to describe what I'm talking about, but I don't know what it is.
Here then is a completed string (1 of 3), the triples and the pairs for a lottery game I'm tracking.
A1 - 2313312313132212232312321122213221132133111222311331121 (3)
Triples PAIRS
11 12 13 21 22 23 31 32 33 1 2 3
2 3 3 2 1 1 3 2 1 3 3 1
3 2 1 1 3 1 2 3 1 2 3 3
1 3 2 3 2 2 3 1 1 3 2 1
2 2 2 3 3 3 3 1 1 3 1 1
3 2 2 3 1 2 2 1 2 2 1
2 1 3 (3) 2 1 1 2 3 2
3 3 1 1 3 2
2 3 1
2 1 2
1 2 2
3 2 2
3 1 3
1 2 1
1 1 1
2 1 3
1 1 1
3 2
1 2
2 2
(3) 3
1
(Will line up on graph paper)
If the next number in the A1 string is a 3, a 3 would be added to the 21 column under Triples. A 3 would also be added to the 1 column under Pairs
The Triples and Pair columns would be updated each time one or more digits (maximum of 3) is added to the A1 string.
How is the data used??
Briefly, the end of the string is 21. The question is - what's next??
Based on the entries in the 21 column, I might choose '2'
However, there are other considerations. This is not the place to describe the whole workout.
I just need some help with the logging.
Please note that since there is no math involved in a lottery drawing, there is no math required for any of the data strings.
I'd appreciate any offer to help.
