To jump-start sales and additional interest, what if Powerball offered one day a month of free tickets?

To keep it at an organized chaos, it would be the first Tuesday of every month, between the hours of 6-8:00 PM EST.  Limit 5 lines per customer.

Would this be an incentive for people who rarely play PB to play more often?

Would this result in player brawls throughout the country?

Would this simply be a waste of time, because only the greedy non-players would take advantage of this promo?

I'm not sure about the other options you mentioned, mcginnin56, but I'm sure it sould results in brawls right here on LP.

Consider the animosity towards California and NY jackpot winners now, just think if someone won a JP on a free ticket!

"That dirty rotten cheapskate bast****, I've been playing for _ _ years and they waltz in on a Tuesday and get a free ticket that wins!  !@# $%^&* *()!@# "

    Scared

Not too mention how many mooches would only play on 'free ticket' day.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

    Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

      It would be Chaos.

      Mothers would be trampling children.

Grandmothers would be whoring themselves for extra tickets.

Men would be stabbing eachother in the back.  (and front) to get to the front of the line.

We would have to call in the National Guard and have those lottery maniacs put into FEMA concentration camps.

There is also no way to enforce the 5 line limit.

There is no way to enforce the 5 line limit, you could simply go to the rear of the line to receive another 5 lines, or go to another store.

Perhaps a more affective promotion would be randomly drawn paid losing tickets.

The whoring of the grandmothers sounds rather intriguing however.

Actually there have been several players who used a free promo ticket to win a major prize, including a jackpot.

They first had to buy one or more tickets beforehand, to receive the "free" promo ticket.

I agree. It is a bad idea for all the above reasons and I'm sure there would be other problems caused by a free ticket give away as well. Now giving away a free ticket for every three purchased (up to a limit of five free tickets) might be the way to go.

I hadn't heard that California was getting PB until I read it here. Is it definite or a they still in negotiations about it?

It was always in the stars for me to be a lottery winner.

Yeah, that's true. Illinois has had a buy 5 get 1 free promo, and Florida had a free ticket with a 'grouper' purchase, but those are a universe away from a no buy-in whatsoever.

I believe five is the limit, are you sure you wouldn't want to take three additional Grandmothers. What?

Perhaps one 5 StarStarStarStarStar Grandmother would do....  What?

I guess "free", is a bad thing when it comes to giving away lottery tickets.

Maybe to compensate for this, every 10,000th player could be charged double for their tickets.  What?

"Free" tickets would be just as worthless as the ones we pay for..........  Who had this sucky idea??

Each ticket sold MUST be numbered and tracked...... What?

A ticket of 5 lines or more is IN the running for a mini JP each drawing......
