What does it mean that Tripling Crossword has a prize payout of 63%? Does it mean that if I buy one full roll of scratch off for this game, it is guaranteed that I will get at least 63% of my money back?

No, you will most likely only get back around $120 from your $300 pack of Tripling Crossword, around 40%. Getting a profitable pack is something like 1-in-10 to 1-in-20 odds. It would be nice if CA they published the actual minimum pack value like TX does, but they don't, so this is just an estimate.

The Tripling Crossword games are all the same odds, they just keep re-releasing it with different game number and color. By my numbers, the game has a total return of 65.21%. But I guess if they break that out and remove the "Ticket" value prizes, that would then give you 62.98% cash payout total for the game. I don't treat the "Ticket" prizes separately, they are credit that most retailers treat as cash, it all balances out the same anyway.

Note that you only get that theoretical 65% return if you win the top prize. Your actual realized return will vary and generally increase as you play, for most people probably around the 50-60% range.(few hundred plays over the life of the game)

If a $1 game had 1,000,000 tickets and one ticket paid $630,000 and all the others paid nothing that would be a 63% payout.

Good point Jon, that's why when DH & I go to Texas we only play scratcher there. I like the fact that they post on the webiste the actual minimum pack.
