"RAI$E" UR investment in "LOTTERY"!
Hi Psykomo, yes it mekes a lot of cents lol
In the game in question The Washington State lotto in the 1990's they have had the same matrix the entire time and have gone from over 100 (one hundred) wins of 5 of 6 numbers correct in one night to only 2 to 10 people who can get 5 of 6 numbers correct on average now. Using the same number of balls.
Stake47 may have given me some insight on why? Im still checking it out now!

Most lottery websites have posted on them somewhere the amount of winners and how many numbers they got correct.
Ive noticed that there are less winners today than in the past. For example in the Washington State Lotto below if you look below you will see that the amount of people who got 5 of the 6 numbers correct in every drawing is considerably so much higher than today.
Today the average amount of winners who get 5 of 6 numbers correct is roughly 5 to 10 winners compared to about 50 to 100 winners in each drawing. Just wondering how this is possible? Did people somehow get less smart or more dumb and cant get 5 numbers right now compared to then?
I believe its has always been a 6/49 game. I'm checking that now. And this run of high winners ran for 15 years, till more recently. Did you ever look at your lottery's website past amount of winners is it relatively the same as this lottery below or not?

I just noticed your thread, and the answer is very simple: revenue.
The lottery and casinos offer games with a built-in certain statistical certainty over time, that's how the business works. More revenue means more winners, but the same percentage, that does not change. They always get their expected cut.
I don't know anything about Washington Lotto game, but one quick look at your list and it is easy to see, by my eyeball looking at it, EVERYTHING is higher in 1993 versus 2012, number of winners on all prize tiers 3/6, 4/6 and 5/6. Easiest to see with 3/6 number of winners in the low 5 figure range on average in 1993, but only in the high 4 figure average in 2012.
That tells you that revenue for those draws in 1993 was higher than 2012. So that results more winners at each tier, EVERY tier. You could also calculate backwards from the number of winners at each tier to estimate the amount of revenue collected for those draws that produced those number of winners based on the parameters of that game. Or you can try and pull old lottery reports and see annual revenue collected on Lotto to determine the average revenue per draw compared to now.

hey Stack47 that was a darn good read I appreciate the simplicity of it and how you broke everything down. I have to re-read it again because I want to respond on some other things. I like the fact that you are able to break things down in the way that you do. Great job man!
I dont know the % of people on LP who have actually won 5 of 6 numbers right. I know RJOH just won yet thats the first 5 of 6 win that I have heard of on LP in a long time other than myself a couple weeks ago, but it seems as many people on this website that there is you should be hearing far more occurances than just one or two 5 out of 6 wins, well it seems like you would? maybe not???
You know what I wish I could do? I wish I could get 50,000 people to play every drawing for the next month and see what the outcome would be and see if we would see 103 wins in a night or even 75 wins in a night in every drawing. Because if the amount of players is the same and the matrix is the same you should have the same outcome correct??
I still find it difficult to believe in one night 103 people got 5 of 6 numbers correct and in some other years there were upwards to 150 winners in one night when I first saw that I was like what the hell!!!! Yet if your data is on the money Stack47, I suppose it would seem plausable.
I dont think that many people on LP play lotto because most on here are into pick 3 and pick 4 games but even so with all the people on lotterypost you would think you'd be hearing of more winners like RJOH won last week. I would personally think we'd be hearing of wins like that weekly on LP but we dont because getting 5 of 6 numbers correct like RJOh did is an almost impossibility for most players even with the greatest of systems and we all on here know that. And Thats why I find it difficult to believe that the number of winners upwards to 150 winners in a night then were able to get 5 of 6 right, yet as you explained if most of those were QP's then maybe the computer gave out a % of winning tickets based upon the amount of sales each night as you said.
"Because if the amount of players is the same and the matrix is the same you should have the same outcome correct??"
There are only 258 different ways to match five numbers in a 6/49 matrix so the number of 5 out of 6 winners depend on how many of those combos are sold including duplicate tickets. Since most tickets are QPs and there is a fixed payoff, it's possible they now program the RNGs in their terminals to distribute the QPs raffle style. When the game had a pari-mutual payoff it really didn't matter how many of the 258 combos were sold or the number of duplicate tickets.
If the average volume of play was $1.4 million (2.8 million tickets) in 1993, there should be about 50 five number matches each drawing. QP distribution is the only logical reason I have for 50% more than expected five number matches in many drawings.
"I dont think that many people on LP play lotto because most on here are into pick 3 and pick 4 games but even so with all the people on lotterypost you would think you'd be hearing of more winners like RJOH won last week."
In the 1980s it was uncommon to see only one jackpot winner and rare when there were no jackpot winner in the the Ohio Lotto game with a smaller matrix. The number of five number matches were substancially higher because their payoff was pari-mutual too. Looking at the Washington statistics, Lotto and scratch-offs were the games of choice in the 1990s. About 1/3 of all ticket sales was Lotto, but now it's distributed between Lotto, MM, and PB.
We read more about PB and MM on LP because those games are played nationally. RJ's win was more impressive to me because he used a method to picked his combos.
