       See Ya!

Ronnie316,

Here's something to consider as you search for ways to manage your 28 number "cache."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cache_algorithms

"In computing, cache algorithms (also frequently called replacement algorithms or replacement policies) are optimizing instructions – algorithms – that a computer program or a hardware-maintained structure can follow to manage a cache of information stored on the computer. When the cache is full, the algorithm must choose which items to discard to make room for the new ones."

That's got to be the worst definitiion for either "Cache" or "Algorithm" that I have ever seen.

Sorry I am way too busy creating my own software with my own ideas to waste my time on wikipedia.  Wikipedia is like Linux anyone can contribute but that does not mean they are qualified.

You may not have to be concerned about the Algorithm definition anyway since you may have overlooked this link:

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorithm

It's true that anyone can contribute but have observed what you must go through in the vetting process to get published?

          Check it out.

If I wanted to be published I don't need wikipedia so I have no need to know their vetting process.

It's curious to me why someone as busy as you, with a stated disinterest in Wikipedia, would take time away from your important work to critique and dismiss it.

I'm a more diligent analyst than you are.  The source of the information is just as important as the information itself.

Excellent post Jimmy, "consider the source" is never a strong point for the Lazy Left Wing Extremist because they have no moral compass or frame of reference for what is "right" or what is "wrong".

A tree can be known by its fruit, but in a world of imagined equality all fruits look the same.

                              Ronnie316,

It's really a shame that Wikipedia is not considered a reliable information source by the "heavy hitters" here.  You miss a lot.  Many consider it one of the best in the world.  But since I wanted you to be aware of some possibilities in your quest for profitable methods of number selecting, here's another source.  (A researcher at the IBM Almaden Research Center) Note the connections to your "Playing Recently Drawn Numbers" approach.  Wikipedia describes several alternative methods as well, but I guess you'll have to learn about them through some other source.

                              http://dbs.uni-leipzig.de/file/ARC.pdf

"The self-tuning, low-overhead, scan-resistant adaptive replacement cache algorithm outperforms the LEAST-RECENTLY-USED algorithm by dynamically responding to changing access patterns and continually balancing between workload recency and frequency features."

BTW, your above quoted remark is so out of character for you that I at first thought maybe someone had stolen your LP password. Perhaps some experiences on the night shift inspire you more than others.

                              Have fun!
