Here's a question sent to me regarding Daily 4 (Pick 4) and I replied, so thought I'd post my reply in hopes it answers a question about "buying at a cashier vs. a machine" and the many advantages regarding a DIY machine. It is almost a MUST to have the time, no chance of someone buying game 'between you and next purchase' and the ability to figure while being able to take your time vs. a cashier and people standing in line. Always try and use a machine - the advantages are time, ability to buy 'in order' and you can stand there and decide if you want to buy or see if your ticket is a winner. Without the RUSH or pressure of other ppl behind you. And, the chance that someone 'could' overhear or see your game pick, then buy same game, or next ticket. Machine is best by far when using any method or calculation of numbers requiring some time needed. And, not losing a spot. I try and put in enough money to hold my position long enough to 'run away' any people waiting. It works. So, use the machines when you can.

Regarding Pick 3 draws per day - it is astounding the number of times the MORNING Pick 3 involves the Month & Day - my theory is that each draw starts with the Month for Morning and Day drawings. So, an example is 07-06-2014 (this without looking at result). It almost always seems to be something like this: 7- (2 or 8) - 6, so 7-2-6 or 7-8-6. Using the 2nd zero as a 2, thus the 7- 2+6 - 6 OR 7-2-6. All very close to this.
My overall theory is that for each draw, morning-day starts with just that - morning = month (its first) and Day (uses day first), so you get something like Morning results for Day results, like 6-7-8 or 6-7-(2or3 = first zero + 2nd zero = 3). Or, 8-6-7, the reason I like 8 is that 2+6 (day digits) = 8 and (1+7) = 8 Month digits. USUALLY, anytime you can get the same result from adding the day or month and get a match, that is a solid number to use.
Then, for Evening and Night, you get into the year - unless you get a match like 07-17-2014, which I believe was 5200. The '00' was the result of having 17 (07) and 17 with cancelled each other - each way. The 52 was achieved by Year (which is usually 20+1+4= 25. used two times and the +1 and +1 from17 and 27. But, the most likely reason is this: year = 25 + day =27, 25+27 = 52. So, sometimes it's obvious, epecially when you get duplicates-matching numbers that cancel out each other. So, if you added 25 +1 (month 07 is 17), the 7 is cancelled due to Day being 17, which is 27. So, if you took only the year, 2014 (25) and if all digits are added separately, you get 2+1+4 = 7. S0, using the year (25) + (7) = 32. Then, Month 17 and day (which is really 37, the second zero in 07-17 translates into 17 and 2+1 -7 or 37. 37-17 = 20. So, pretty easy to look at Eve-Night being 20+32 = 52.
Theory, IMO, has Morn and Day starting on first digit, the month, then each draw moves starting number right one spot. So morning and day starts on, say 07 - 7. Then Evening starts on 3rd position,07-"1"7-2014 and moves to 01-1"7" for Night draw. Also, repeated numbers are used first, so say an Evening draw on 07-17-2014 started with third position, 07-"1"7, which that 1 is really a "3" (2nd zero is 2 and +1 from the first zero "1" is added, making the starting number the third spot, or "3", then added L>R, it would use the next unused number - the 7 in day, or the 4 in 2014. OR, could use the 1 in 14, but the 1 has already been used in the 2+1 (taken from first zero) - so 5 is unlikely, unless 2 is the start number, then move to next unused number, in this case 7 and would probably end with 1+4 (5) or just the 1. Using the "1" but not the 7, as "7" it would be a duplicate TWICE 07 and 2014 =7. So, my guess would be 3- 7 - then 4. Would add the 2 of Day with 7 (2+7), but used it with the 3 already. So, 3-7- (2 and 1 have been used) in 2014) so 4, 3-7-4. This would give a result of 3-7-4 (but be careful of 7 as it is a duplicate TWICE, in Month AND in year 2+0+1+4 = 7. So, used once, 3-7-4 or 9 (2+7)9-1-4 . The play would be (or could be) 2+7 = 9 then 1or4 (2-7-1, 2-7-4 or 2-7-5 or don't forget zero, but it would be a "3", so 2-7-3 (again, might avoid dup 7) so 9-0-3, 9-0-1, 9-0-4 (like this because 2+7 = 9 avoiding dup 7s, and 3rd zero is 3+1 = 4 and 9-3-5. Finally, 2+7 = 9, then 1 (haven't used 1 yet, as in +1 for the 2 spot), so 9-1-4 or 9-3-5.
Finally, you could use a Zero (numbers adding up to 10 in L>R order, like 2+7+1 = 10. 2 was used, so using 2+7+1, the only issue is the 3rd zero (3), but could use 2-(7+3=10) 0, then you would have 2-0-1, 204, or 205 without using, or skipping used or unused numbers in order. So, I'm going to now check and see what the result was for 07-17-2014. === Well, I was right about the 17's cancelling out, but they become zeros: 00-00-2014, so 12-34-2014 or 12-34-3324. I found some GREAT info on Pick 4 (Daily 4) which I will post tomorrow morning. This is the idea -theory- I had about starting from odd-even days, but it's not that - it's front-wards and backwards! I'll show how it works, and yep - it does work. Looks so simple once you figure it out. I'll post this tomorrow, Thurs 8-14.
Now, the results of the 07-17-2014 Pick 3 Morning, and just like I thought, you have to figure in the duplicates which cancel out each other, then become zeros (with a value by position)!!
Morning 6-8-0 (17-17, start with 07-17, the 7's cancel and =0, so you have 00-00. Values are by position 1=2=3, then 00 = 3+4.
Use 00-0, 1+2+3=6 Then, +day 04 (4th zero = 4) then using 2014, 2 is 2nd use of a 2, add +1=3, then 2014, 4+3+1 = 8
So, 6-8- then 2014 =4, (back to beginning 00-00 or 12-34) 4+1+2+3=10 (0)
There is how the result is figured: 6-8-0
This was an unusual day, with duplicate numbers 07-17-2014. So, no wonder it was so tough. But, in analyzing this, I learned something. Hope you did, as well.
I found a VERY interesting bit of info on Daily 4 which I will post on the Daily 4 section. Don't miss this - it is solid and works frontward, then backward. You will be glad you read this. GL to all.
