Every once and awhile I come across cards that for almost impossible to scratch. This happened to me the other day as I purchased a game that I noticed the retailer hadn't sold a ticket from since September. It was so difficult to scratch that I ended up removing some of the numbers trying to get the coating off.

I was wondering if any players out there have ever encountered this scenario and if so are there any tips on scratching these cards.

Our $20 Christmas peppermint ticket was like that here in PA....I say was because they seemed to have

fixed the problem, it's not difficult to scratch anymore. Anyway, when it was so frustrating scratching part of

the card off in the process, I'd just scratch the scan box and scan the stupid thing. What a waste - no playing

the game like that - but it was easier that way. Now that PA has obviously had complaints and fixed the problem

and it's a lot easier to scratch, that's what I do.

It sounds like the one you found was an older one...so little chance of the lottery correcting the problem?? I guess

just stay away from it or scan the ticket instead if you buy it again. I believe also that if you do find a good one and

there is something wrong with the ticket - marred surface, etc - the lottery can decline payment. Be careful.

Unfortunately this particular ticket's barcode (on the back) can't be scanned without the accompanying digits under the scratch surface and I couldn't even reveal that.

Was told the tickets are stored in a warehouse and the hot and cold weather makes them harder to scratch.
