              good afternoon all,

I have a quick question to ask.

If you win 10,000 by playing 20 straight off of pick three,  do you have to pay taxes on that?

usually $500 wining tickets are cash so i and others usually will not claim it.  therefore im assuming in the same rules apply even if you 20 $500 tickets, same rules will apply?

I know my logic  does not make sense.  but if someone can enlighten me, i would greatly appreciate.   thanks

20 straight individual tickets are $500 each, therefore, no taxes.  Retailers can payout up to $600 in the store.  I hope this answer helps.

If you have individual tickets that are $600 or less, you can collect in the store on each ticket. There is no paperwork to fill out so there is not tracking that you were paid this money. I believe the law was structured this way to encourage play; if paperwork was required to collect all winnings, ticket sales would drop off dramatically thereby limiting amount of revenue to state on sales irrespective of additional revenue from taxes on winnings. One time I had a dopey retailer punch in one ticket for $20 straight for the 3 numbers- as opposed to twenty $1 tickets- which would have resulted in a trip to lottery office to collect a check. Congratulations on your big win.
