Hello.

Is there anyway I can find multiple items in my Excel sheet? I'm working with two sheets, one that has 365 winning lottery combos, while the other has all possible combos. I'd like to find all the winning combos in the list of all possible combos and cross them out so I can have a better visual of what combos not to pick. I've been using the find button for each one individually, but it's taking a lot of time. Is there anyway I can speed this up? Thank you!!

My suggestion is to only concern yourself with combos that begin with 1,2 or 3 as these are most drawn.

If you upgrade to Platinum you'll be able to search drawings quickly.

Search 1-2,1-3,1-4,1-5 etc up to 1-10 as, again, these are most drawn and then you'll be able to mark them off quickly. See example below using the Search Drawings Tool here on the LP.

Search Connecticut Cash 5 Past Results

    • Game(s): Connecticut Cash 5
    • Match Type: Positional search
    • Minimum Numbers to Match: 2
    • Date range: All Available History
    • 128 drawings matched the search criteria specified

Now do the same with the 2-3, 2-4,2-5 etc to 2-10

and again with 3-4, 3-5 etc to 3-10.

Of course you can go ahead with the 4's, 5's, etc but in my opinion it's not worth the time.

Read my recent blog if you are interested in receiving a copy of my Pick 5 Fever book.

    Just my 2 cents.

      Use the following formula:

      =SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER($C10:$I10),--ISNUMBER(MATCH($C10:$I0,$C$6:$I$6,0)))

C6: I6 is the winning combination.  I put this up at the top of my spreadsheet.

C10:I10is the combination you want to check, copy down to see the number of matches for each of your 385 combinations.  Change the cell references to match the parameters of your lotto game (eg. 5,6,7 numbers).  You can also add conditional formatting to have winning combos show up in bold, red or some other format that makes them easy to visually pick out of a long list.

Set up your spreadsheet as follows:

Row 1, Columns C to I -- most recent winning numbers (this assumes 7 numbers -- use the number of cells you need and adjust the formula accordingly)

Rows 5 to 390 -- your 385 combinations, in columns C to I (or however many columns you need)

Row 5, column K -- enter the sumproduct formula:

            =SUMPRODUCT(--ISNUMBER($C5:$I5),--ISNUMBER(MATCH($C5:$I5,$C$1:$I$1,0)))

Make sure that the cell references correspond to the appropriate cells and that you include all the dollar signs ($) as they are in the formula.

Copy the formula in cell K5 down to cell K390.  The formula will produce the number of matches between each of your 385 sets and the winning set at the top of the page.

Why??????  If you have winning combos, why would you cross them out.  I would think you would just do just the reverse.  I just took a look at your CT Cash 5 game.  I download the winning numbers going back to 01/01/2013.   There have been 899 drawings from 01/01/13 - 06/18/15. If you look at the numbers 10 11 12 20 23 26 27.  You will see below how they would have hit with 3 or more numbers in past drawings in the time framed listed above.  There are combinations of numbers & patterns  in every jackpot game that I look at barring none.

              Food for thought
