Thanks for the heads up on that story ... very interesting. Here's a little more detail ... they have won before so they have true luck, I guess.
You read about people having 50, 100 or just a bunch of tickets on one number and some get lucky ... I'm sure many people probably do this and only a few actually hit anything ... many go broke or lose a lot of money trying ... but there are the lucky few.
They had already hit the Cash 5 in 2007 for $100,000.
September 19 was a big day for Charles and Pamela Hargrove of Woodbridge. On that one day, they won a total of $303,900 in the Virginia Lottery's Pick 4 and Cash 5 games. Pamela had 37 tickets for that night's Pick 4 drawing, all matching the four winning digits, 3977, in exact order. Each of those tickets won the game's $5,000 top prize for a total of $185,000. "In my heart I knew that number was coming," she said. "I didn't know when. I just knew it was coming."
Charles had 17 tickets for the same drawing. Unlike his wife, he placed a 50/50 wager on each of his tickets, meaning he'd win if the tickets matched the winning numbers in either exact or any order. Those tickets won $2,700 each for a total of $45,900. As if that's not enough, Charles also had a Cash 5 ticket for the same night's drawing that matched all five winning numbers to win the $100,000 top prize. All the tickets were bought at Mapledale BP at 13601 Mapledale Avenue in Woodbridge.
Charles, who is an engineer tech, and Pamela, who is a bookkeeper, have some experience winning big in the Virginia Lottery. In February of 2007 they won $100,000 playing Cash 5. And do they intend to keep playing? Yes, we will! said Charles.
Also, just read that you can play the Cash 5 in VA for 25 cents ... you must spend a total of $1.00 but you can play four sets of numbers at 25 cents each ... that's different.
From the VA Lottery:
Choose your play amount. You can play Cash 5 for $1, 50¢, or 25¢. Your ticket needs to total $1, but you can play 25¢ or 50¢ on any set of numbers. This gives you the option to choose more sets of numbers for $1!
There are questions in my mind about the story ... wonder how long they were playing that number ... she mentions she knew the number was coming but she didn't know when it would hit?
Her husband went with the same number ... so they both felt this number was going to hit? How many times does that happen? Usually it is one person that goes after a number ... or I would think.
