A $20 hunch turned into a nearly $1.5 million fortune for one lucky Long Islander .
A 66-year-old man who would identify himself only as Howard G. scored the largest racetrack casino jackpot in state history on Oct. 25 when he won $1,473,503 on the popular Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars slot machine at the Empire City Casino in Yonkers.
“For the last six months, I’ve been telling everyone I’m gonna win this. I just had a feeling,” he said Monday as he was presented with his prize-winning check.
He said he used his Empire City club card to make the $20 spin.
“I was convinced I was gonna win,” Howard recalled.
Howard, a business consultant for the past 36 years, said his secret to success was simple.
“I never shave on a Sunday,” he said. “That Sunday, I shaved.”
The father of one also described how his wife reacted to news of the jackpot.
“I told my wife right away,” he recalled. “I said, ‘I hit it. I won.’ She said, ‘Good. What did you win?’ When I told her, she said, ‘Now you have no excuse [not] to fix the roof.’ ”
Where the wheel keeps spinning & hope keeps winning!
