when was boom? guess I missed the sky huh

6:15pm. Heard nothing. It was probably hundreds of miles away high in the atmosphere. Imagine my surprise when I was just driving along to the store thinking about my Pick 3 number when that monster fireball came steaming into my field of vision.

No sound or tremors but there was an increasing wind for about 1/2 hour then it evened out to 8mph winds with 22 mph gusts. Nothing further was seen or observed.

          North East of Smithsburg, Md.
        • Report:
While walking eastbound toward my truck (along side of the driveway), I became aware of what seemed to be lightning reflecting off of the snow in front of me.( Clear skies at the time) I looked up and toward the north ( to my left ) just in time to see a fairly large and bright boloid emitting sparks as it passed from east to west ( approx.) Angle above the horizon I would estimate at around 40 degrees ( above and parallel to the horizon heading east to west ). Total duration I estimate at about 5 or 6 seconds. ( that is, from the time I first noticed the flashing on the ground to the time I witnessed it burn out). I found that unusual... But... not as unusual as seeing another boloid 8 to 10 seconds later tracking West South West to East North East! A little less brilliant than the first but about as long in duration. Again about 40 degrees above the horizon. Kind of scary really! As for brightness of both boloids... I saw the flashing light effect reflecting while looking at the ground so I guess about the brightness of a full moon.

        • Report:
A bright white fireball descending quickly. The light lasted about 5 seconds and seemed to extinguish before coming in line with the trees. It was brighter than a full moon. We were in the car so I could not hear any sounds that coincided with the sighting.

If the guy in Erie, PA was facing south and I was facing north then that gives you an idea that the path must have been between us somewhere. Maybe that guy in Maryland was under it and it passed over Maryland? It'll be interesting to see what the NASA folks have to say. They track this stuff and post it on their fireball tracking site with the complete track and suspected origin and even with video if it passed over one of their cameras.

Yep. Sorry, I shy away from posting the numbers because I have a touch of dyslexia. Sometimes i just straight up read the numbers in the wrong order right off the screen.
