We all play.  But don't keep records of wins and losses.

$5 a day for 10 years is $16,000(estimate)

Take away your one or two hits and you're in the hole big time

    Its a lot less than I spend on other forms of entertainment like cable TV, dining out, vacations, etc.

        If I didn't spend the money on lottery tickets, I'd spend it on something else.  Each day I buy a dream that "could" become reality with one big hit.  I'm not a brain surgeon nor a corporate lawyer, this is the only way for me to make a million.  LOL!

        Never give up.  Banana

            Not much really, I am 22 and didn't really start playing till I was like 19.... I'm fine with throwing £2 at a draw every now and then for the chance to win millions.... I am keeping track of my spending to give myself an idea this year tho although it has been an expensive month since the EuroMillions & UK Lotto jackpots has been so high! It has been won now tho so I doubt I will even play unless it gets back up there quickly..

            I have a co-worker who buys like 3-4 Starbucks drinks a day and those are expensive as hell (£2.50ish each), if she is spending £10 a day on overpriced coffee drinks my £2 on the lottery is hardly expensive!

            2016 Won/Lost

            EuroMillions / Spent: £22 / Won £0 / Total -£22

            UK Lotto / Spent: £4 / Won: £0 / Total: -£4

            2016 Total: -£24

            Jan: -£22 Feb: £0 ~ Mar: £0 ~ April: £0 ~ May: £0 ~ June: £0 ~ July: £2

            EuroMillions = £2 Line / Played: x11 [old price]

            EuroMillions = £2.50 Line / Played: x0

            UK Lotto = £2 Line / Played x2

                  I have won far more back than I've ever spent.  I don't do quick-picks.

                      This is so true... I also justify my $25 weekly expense this way.

                          there isn't an easy way to calculate over the years, unless you keep track of all $ spent on every ticket. I never felt so lucky to have won more than what I spent...at least 10 times more.

                          I hope those who are spending too much will take a step back and think it over.

                          playing what can be afforded...spend half of what was reclaimed.

                            Cable, dining out and vacations are tangible outcomes. Yes gambling can also be considered entertainment but, the difference is that in the gambling sector of the entertainment, there is no guarantee. Cable, dining, vacations..etc..are all tangible guaranteed outcomes.

                            IMO Gamblers should only wage on monies they can afford to lose.

                              Crossing my fingers i will eventually hit a decent win so i can say i have broke even or won more then i have paid in, until then i am upside down. I mostly only play PB/MM and hoosier lotto. My lottery budget a week is $8. I love to play but i love guaranteeing my own JP for retirement by saving my money more.... so i keep a pretty tight budget limit for gambling given the odds are not in my favor to see a return on what i spend on it. Ya gotta be in the game to win though...so each week i buy a chance at winning.
