There is a petition on Change.org to let lottery winners remain anonymous based on a winner who was killed by people looking for his prize money.  Currently only six states allow you to remain anonymous.  The petition is doing well and if LP members get in on this to push it over the top it could benefit us all.

I agree, the LP community could really push the numbers up.

I signed it, but appears to only be addressing the GA government. I would hope it would have a trickle out effect to the rest of the states.

Why does this petition require your street address and zip code in order to be a valid signature ???  I don't think that should be necessary. Your E-mail address should be enough !! Or, just your state, should be enough !

You may want to invest into security, better locks etc.

Because its for Georgia.  The Senate in that state makes the rules and they could care less about out-of-state people.  Personally, I think thats a good idea for all states.  If someone is injured or murdered because the lottery posts their names, the respective State should be liable.

Change dot org is known for collecting your personal info. I never use it to sign petitions.

                        http://www.marcgunther.com/perhaps-not-the-change-org-we-need/

"Change.org sells what are called “sponsored petitions” to its advertisers. Most are nonprofits–right now they include Amnesty International USA, Greenpeace and the Human Rights Campaign — but there’s nothing to prevent companies from sponsoring petitions. Tapping into its audience, Change.org collects names on those petitions and then sells those who opt in to the sponsor, for about $2 per name. Some advertisers get discounts, and other pay more, for example, for people in specific states."

The main reason why the lottery post names, location of ticket bought, etc is so to prove there really was a winner.  I agree though that you should be remain anonymous as much as possible but if you choose not to than that should be up to the winner to do a press conference or what not.
