Slot machines and lights on the gaming floor of the Westgate hotel-casino appeared to remain dim Friday afternoon.
The outage appeared to have began overnight after Clark County Fire Department responded to the off-Strip property for smoke in the employee dining area. According to the fire department, when crews arrived about midnight, they found no traces of a fire and the smoke stemmed from electrical issues.
However, according to a spokesperson for the Westgate, an alarm was activated tied to a power outage seemingly related to the smoke call. In a statement, the resort explained:
"At approximately 1:30 AM this morning, an alarm was activated at the Westgate causing a partial evacuation of the resort. The cause of the alarm was determined to be associated with the restoration of power which was briefly lost in a portion of the resort earlier in the morning and at no time were any of our guests or employees in danger. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused any of our valued guests."
By late Friday morning, it appeared the gaming machines were still dark. Multiple posts to Twitter from guests showed the lights still out.
