This is a fictional scenario, but here goes...

Is this a webstory we might see in the future?

MEGA MILLIONS AND POWERBALL STILL AT RECORD JACKPOT AMOUNTS BUT NO ONE CARES TO PLAY.

Once again there were no winners in the last drawing for Powerball's $21.5 billion drawing, and Mega Millions $19.2 billion drawing. The jackpots both increased only by a paltry $10 million this time. Why? There haven't been any jackpot winners for either game since the spring of 2016. You would think someone should have won by now but that's not the case, even with record ticket sales and people standing in lines for hours on end at convenience stores. We talked to a few would be players at a local store in New Jersey that were purchasing scratch offs or tickets for other games. Alan, 56 was purchasing scratch off tickets and we asked him if he was planning to purchase tickets for Powerball or Mega Millions "No, I'd rather not waste my time or money. No one can win those games and we've seen proof of that." Judith, 65 was asked the same question "I'm not foolish enough to spend on those games, I've tried in the past, but I don't play them anymore. I play other games that can actually be won."

Sales have dropped over 90% for both games compared to where they had been two years ago. It's obvious players have given up despite the enormous jackpots which would instantly make a winner one of the most wealthiest individuals on the planet. As a result of the low sales, jackpots are only growing at the minimum rate each time there is a roll over. Maybe we'll eventually see a winner again, but it becomes less and less likely as fewer individuals are playing. It may be time for the matrix to be changed for both games to make it a little easier. They were expended a few years back to create larger jackpots, but that may ultimately be hurting both games as there have been no winners. Some have even gone as far as claiming both games are a scam. Lottery officials in some states are still encouraging people to play until someone gets lucky.

If people dream of winning the jackpot and realize their real chances to win the first price, they will loose interest and buy less tickets. The real players will like classical casino games and lottery games where you win from time to time.

There are reasons why lottery is not exciting anymore: same states winning the jackpots/second prize wins, less winners per year and the odds are too high.

After two years without a winner for Powerball's $21.5 billion drawing, and Mega Millions $19.2 billion drawing both lottery's changed to random number generators for their drawings. Ironically, since this change, one player has hit both massive lotteries in the same week. A prison inmate who has been granted anonymity due to the massive sizes of the jackpots, will be living the life after he completes his 10 year sentence. Unrelated, the prison warden of this lucky inmate has announced his retirement as well as several correctional officers and the entire correctional facility IT department. The lottery's urge everyone to keep playing and good luck!

I'm feeling a $312,000,000.00 jackpot win coming my way!

I don't think that where or when you buy a ticket affects if it will be a winner or not. Some states have more people than others and will sell more tickets. Hence, those states might have more winners than others, but nothing changes the odds of winning.

The only thing that does make a difference is if you buy a ticket or not.

Can't win it if you're not in it.

The point is that you cannot lose when you do not play. People with a positive attitude avoid playing.

Life is too short for crappy lottery games, only play the good ones.

Your story is feeling really really realistic right now. Both jackpots are increasing slowly despite both being massive amounts. We might have 2 "preliminary jackpots" on the 25 highest annuity/cash jackpot lists soon if neither hits.

Yeah it's funny that I wrote this, because this scenario really is playing out right now.

Neither game will be won until ALL possible number combinations for both are purchased.

For crying out loud, New York, Florida, New Jersey, California, and Michigan can't even win. You know it's bad when those states can't win.

2/3rds of a billion between them and yet not a word about it from the news. They won't get even half of the possible combo's until it gets even some coverage.

It could just be $1.5 Billion, that's the prize I'm aiming for when I play the lotto in July. I won't even get paid until July.

Your scenario is too frightening right now, though.
