Long story short, I've been working with mean, median and mode here lately. I've always liked mean and have used it for some time. Median is about on the same level of helpfulness. Mode on the other hand is rather interesting. Mode, for those that might not know (I had to go look it up again), is when you count how often something occurred each time. So take something like Sums, here's an example:

16, 3, 15, 26, 16, 9, 9, 12, 16, 21, 11

Mean, or average, would be 14

Median, or middle number (put them in order and whatever is in the middle is the winner), is 15

Mode would be 16 or at least that's the top performer. The way I like to look at mode is in a list of top performers. Using the current example, here's the list:

16: 3
9: 2
3: 1
11: 1
12: 1
15: 1
21: 1
26: 1

16 days out hit the most often but 9 days out did ok too. If the sum that data is for is current out 8 days. I might want to play my sets for the day. Take the below screen shot. I ordered the sum column by median days (ascending). Then looked at the top three sum's modes compared to where they currently stand. The Sum of 16 has the highest chance of hitting over the next two days. *This data is for Florida

With just the one filter, that brings the boxed sets down to a count of 14. Not bad for a single  filter. Another filter or two and it might be playable.

I'll be testing for a bit to see if it produces winners but it got me thinking... Does anyone else have a particular stat that use more often than not?

The link above explains. The clean numbers are the 2E1O,2O1E,2L1H,2H1L. All dbls, all highs, all lows, all evens, all odds, trips are the Unclean numbers. Some people may use 2I1O,2O1I as Clean numbers, I don't.

Thanks for the Mode tip, I have never used it, will try.

I have a question about Mode. In the column of values below, the formula shows a Mode value of 1. What is this telling me?? I think I understand, want to be sure. The 1 is the top hitter??

You got it Bob!  From Wikipedia:

"The mode is the value that appears most often in a set of data. The mode of a discrete probability distribution is the value x at which its probability mass function takes its maximum value. In other words, it is the value that is most likely to be sampled. The mode of a continuous probability distribution is the value x at which its probability density function has its maximum value, so the mode is at the peak."

"There is no such thing as luck; only adequate or inadequate preparation to cope with a statistical universe."

I have a question about Mode. In the column of values below, the formula shows a Mode value of 1. What is this telling me?? I think I understand, want to be sure. The 1 is the top hitter??

If you're referring to the 1 from my screen shot, that's the count of how many days has passed since a hit occurred.

I wrote a SQL script that went through each number, for each position (for 20 years), and marked how long it took to get a hit from the last hit that number had. Then figured the mode for that stat. So if you look at the first screen shot, there's three pop ups on that page, one for each of three sums. The sum of 16's top hitter is two days out. So when the sum of 16 hits, it has the greatest chance of hitting after two days. One day out isn't bad odds either but you can see by 10 days out, your odds drop way off. It seems to be a great tool to gauge how long one should play that sum vs. odds it'll hit.

I noticed you were looking at sums. It looks like a good idea but you might end up waiting awhile for it to hit depending on the state. If its working for you might it also be used on box digit skips, to reduce the number of selections to play? It would depend on how much history you have to work with to see box skip patterns. Just an idea, hope it helps.

I could add a 'last occurred' date/count to that pop up to show when each mode occurred last. Might help make better choices.

                          Briefly if possible.........

                          For current Florida?

                          What are your choices?

                          How many choices?

How long do you play them?

                          Thanks.

You could build a stem, leaf chart and accomplish what you need.
