Long story short, I've been working with mean, median and mode here lately. I've always liked mean and have used it for some time. Median is about on the same level of helpfulness. Mode on the other hand is rather interesting. Mode, for those that might not know (I had to go look it up again), is when you count how often something occurred each time. So take something like Sums, here's an example:
16, 3, 15, 26, 16, 9, 9, 12, 16, 21, 11
Mean, or average, would be 14
Median, or middle number (put them in order and whatever is in the middle is the winner), is 15
Mode would be 16 or at least that's the top performer. The way I like to look at mode is in a list of top performers. Using the current example, here's the list:
16: 3
9: 2
3: 1
11: 1
12: 1
15: 1
21: 1
26: 1
16 days out hit the most often but 9 days out did ok too. If the sum that data is for is current out 8 days. I might want to play my sets for the day. Take the below screen shot. I ordered the sum column by median days (ascending). Then looked at the top three sum's modes compared to where they currently stand. The Sum of 16 has the highest chance of hitting over the next two days. *This data is for Florida
With just the one filter, that brings the boxed sets down to a count of 14. Not bad for a single filter. Another filter or two and it might be playable.
I'll be testing for a bit to see if it produces winners but it got me thinking... Does anyone else have a particular stat that use more often than not?
