This Index chart was shown in Lotto World Magazine way back in the 1990's. I don't remember who wrote about it. It takes into account how hot or cold a number is and how due it is at the same time. This chart can be used with all lottery Pick - 3 -4-5-6, as well as sums etc. I'm using Excel, but you can also use Chrome sheets for this. You pick the amount of games you want to use. Divide that by the hits the number or combo has hit to get a hit average. Then you Divide the hit average into the skips to get an index number, then you run sort to the highest index number. The example I'm using here is Ohio Pick 3 Merged Midday and Evening, Starting date 7/12/2005, when they started using the all in one ball machines. This is an extreme example as far as the amount of games used. This is a tool , not a system. I hope this is helpful. Good Luck Libra Dave

If you could clarify. When you say "Then you Divide the hit average into the skips " are those the total skips in 8000 games or just the current number of games out in this example?

This Index chart was shown in Lotto World Magazine way back in the 1990's. I don't remember who wrote about it. It takes into account how hot or cold a number is and how due it is at the same time. This chart can be used with all lottery Pick - 3 -4-5-6, as well as sums etc. I'm using Excel, but you can also use Chrome sheets for this. You pick the amount of games you want to use. Divide that by the hits the number or combo has hit to get a hit average. Then you Divide the hit average into the skips to get an index number, then you run sort to the highest index number. The example I'm using here is Ohio Pick 3 Merged Midday and Evening, Starting date 7/12/2005, when they started using the all in one ball machines. Thanks to everyone for clearing that up. Now to experiment with this tool. If anyone is interested. I am going to see what happens when this idea is applied to sums and the number of times a given set of box combos come out in a year. In case anyone might think, Why the use of sums? In pick 3 mixed box numbers come out more often in most states. If you arrange the 120 mixed box combos in their sum lists you wind up with a different view of the pick 3 when tracking mixed box numbers only. At its max number of combinations to play, sums 12-15 have only 10 combos in each list. Next to each number in the list I place the number of times a given box combo came out in the last year. This is a sort of frequency count for whole box numbers. Using the index number of the sums and the index number of the frequency count in the last year may show an arrangement of box combos most likely to come out in the next few games. Only back testing will tell. If nothing else, this explanation of my experiment may spark a better idea with someone else.

Sums are filters. You can loop combinations to a certain sum too. Sums are easy to calculate.
Now, what is a sum? A sum is just a group of combinations. The groups are different in lengths unless that you combined them. Basically it is like you would sort straight numbers by their first digits.
For the chart at the top, it isn't much as the more difficult to program isn't in it. Your limits are your abilities to program or your will to pay for data and tools.
If you feel good sorting by sums, just do it. I made my points.

Like the way some like to separate day and evening draws, I separate mixed and double numbers for a different view.
In this example showing today's stats for North Carolina. Notice when tracking the sums of mixed box combos, they only range 3-24 rather than 1-27.
While the index does not seem to be showing much in this example I do tend to look at sum groups with a lower LGO.
Sum= Sum group of combinations
NC= Number of times that sum hit in the last 730 games counting mixed box combos only no doubles.
GO= Games out
LGO= Longest games out or longest skip in last 100 skips
Index= The index number as described at the start of this topic. But this is the index of the sum.
AvgDev= Math average deviation of the skip average
Average= Math average skip of sums
