Has anyone ever climbed the "scratcher ladder"? As in, have you ever bought a small ticket with a limited amount of cash and won enough to enable you to buy the next ticket up?
My experience with this is the time I spent my last few dollars on a $2 scratcher called "20,000 Taxes Paid", and won 20 dollars.
Then, I bought 2 $5 "Super 7s" and won 50 dollars on one of them. I went to a different retailer after that and bought a handful of $10 games (several "Millionaires Club" and a 50X The Cash). The 50X has a 10X 5.00 on it.
After this miracle event, I went to a third retailer and lost my $100 winnings on twenty dollar games.
Yes, I've done this many times, but, in the end, the odds of winning are always against you. Running the ladder is smart, because the overall odds are almost always better for more expensive tickets. So, if you're going to run the ladder, make sure you won enough to buy multiple tickets at the next, higher price. ALSO, only buy ONE TICKET at a time. Stop buying when you've hit a winner, because the odds of winning another prize, back to back, is relatively small.
