L@@K: 104-Year-Old Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Inspiring Story SHARE ARTICLE ON by ERICKA ANDERSEN December 6, 2016 11:47 AM Ray Chavez was a 29-year-old American Sailor on December 7, 1941. Today, he is 104 — and the oldest known survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In this news report, Chavez says,“I got very emotional on that day, there were so many innocent people that were lost”(approx 3,000 military & civilian lives) This year marks the 75th anniversary of that awful day — and Chavez has been preparing for it for the past three years. He was intent on making the trip to Hawaii for the anniversary but knew his body would need to stay in shape in order to make it. Three years ago, he hired a personal trainer to ensure he’d be able to make the trip. This year, he got a first-class ticket on Alaska Airlines and arrived this past weekend, ready for the anniversary ceremonies tomorrow.
