DateLine: August 27, 1776 - BATTLE of BROOKLYN/LONG ISLAND This BATTLE of BROOKLYN/LONG ISLAND took place during the Revolutionary War as overwhelming British forces attacked American rag tag army who ended up being forced to evacuate two days later.
Nota Bene:
Untold story of volunteer Rear Guards fought fearsly and heroically to slow down the Red Coats to the point where as as General Washington could *ship out of Brooklyn across the Hudson River & save his army.
*This brave action is akin to the when ancient Greek warrior's held off the mountain pass of thousands of invading Persians.

In 1944 during the struggle and trauma of WW11, Nazi forces in Toulon and Marseille, France surrendered to allied troops spearheaded by the advanced American army.

15,000 American liberation troops of the 28th infantry proudly marched down the jubilant Champs Elysses Blvd to mass cheering Parisians, as the French Capitol continued it's almost 5 year occupation celebration from the Nazis.

America recieved word of the fatal car crash in Paris that killed Princess DIANA, her boy friend, Dodi Fayed and their drive Henri Paul. Because of the time difference, it was August 31st when the deadly and mysterious crash occurred :-(

This was the site of the Stadt Huis, the Dutch City Hall
The name New Amsterdam legacy s also written on the architrave situated on top of the row of columns in front of the Manhattan Municipal Building, commemorating the name of the Dutch colony. Although no architectural monuments or buildings have survived, the legacy lived on in the form Dutch Colonial Revival architecture.
