  The first recorded Columbus Day Celebration was held

  Columbus Day was officialy established as a national holiday by FDR in 1937 for commemoration 

  Although Genova, Italy (his birthplace) he was commissioned to sail for Spanish King Ferdinand & Queen Isabella who just have completed THE 'RECONQUESTA' of Spain in 1492 along with Christian Knight El Cid thus 'The Loss of al-Andalus' Muslim lament. Now that Spain has finally united begins Era of Spain's Golden Age New World discovery by Christopher Columbus

  
  At his home his father was a cartographic map maker who instilled in him a curiosity and taste for wondrous exploration, further pushing out known boundaries

   

  Unfortunately the pc want to eliminate his legacy via failed attempts to bring down his Statute @ Columbus Circle in Manhattan & stopping the famous Day parade on ABC-TV
