Capitol records recording star of "Old Black Magic" many years with Louis Prima. " passed at 89 of appeared heart failure at home in Palm Springs. They Showcased at the Sahara . We saw her multi times with Sam Butera @ the Desert In. Keely had a bold special jazzy vocal quality that worked well with Prima's high energy humorous style - actually became the model act that later Sony & Cheri copied successfully.
Will be missed by family, friends & fans "Don't Take Your Love From Me"

The age (89) of a noted celebrity is commonly posted on their passing; sorry if abridged version caused any inadvertent misunderstanding.
And Keely Smith will always be remembered with Louie Prima as Vegas lounge pioneers starting with the early shows at the Sahara Casbar Lounge and a burning backing jazz band known as th witnesses led by secondo side kick & lead sax player affable Sam Buttera.
Louie Prima's firebrand vocals, trumpet playing & indefatigable showmanship were offset by Keely Smith stoically beautiful stage manner, to say nothing about her perfect pitch & sultry voice . The Casbar quickly caught on as a late nighter/early morning destination and Keely, Louie, Sam combo packed the new Casbar Club regularly.
Thanks for your interest, hope you enjoyed the additional foot note bright lights.
They were definitely old school but likes & sounds of which will not be replaced.

•~As one song goes "you have to Have Heart' and Keely had great heart in her unique voice. Female singers of today don't seem to have what some singers of the past had which in Brooklyn guyz called HEART ?Our such singer of the past who took her final curtain & bow was Keely Smith.. . As just one of the great torch singers back in the 50/60's . Smith had a way of letting go with her wonderful feelings and words that few were capable of.Coupled with wild man jazz trumpeter Louie Prima they went swinging down the lane making some great music through those unforgettable years with aforementioned 'The Old Black Magic' as their official signature song.With the undisputed crown of 'Queen of Las Vegas' she and Prima were the mainstay the Sahara' Casbar Club though out the 50's and contused in the 60's with Same Butera & as a single at the Desert Inn Lounge in the 70's while being honored in the LV Hall of Fame; not before leaving a legacy of a truly unique sound, good music and fond memories of those golden past times.When asked why I still love those ole' days, I answer by saying it was a great vibe and I am part of that vibe tribe I miss her & she will always be missed by music lovers of that period.Enjoy her Christmas Music BoxEddessa-Knight with Memory Music's Light
