I don't know about software, but I find Excel beneficial to me with identifying patterns from past drawings.

If I wanted to wheel the following some numbers from the IL Lotto game, I would wheel 05 07 12 20 24 40 44 based on a past history of drawings.

Here is tonight drawing of the IL Lotto. I bumped it against my history file looking for matches of at least 4 numbers & here is the results. It only took me about 30 sec to come up with these results.

I trying to figure out the OPs request and your 2 responses. The whole deal about playing the lottery is predicting the future results. Yes I am very aware of back-testing to test a theory. If I used my theory and I applied it to the last X games, I would spend Y dollars and got Z winnings. My back testing on just one theory alone can take days over multiple computers testing millions of combinations.

The OP wanted to "identifying patterns from past drawings", I assume to make future predations.

Butch, in your first response I see see the common numbers highlighted in red, I see the pattern there. I do not see any pattern in the DATES you picked. Your "pattern" goes from date intervals of 5 years- 7 months then 2 months. What is the pattern?!? I can just as easily pick any 7 numbers and find games at some random dates that match 4+ of the number I randomly pick. At that point I am just justifying my picks on randomness, with no pattern to predict the future.

Butch, on this post, you showed tonights numbers AFTER they were posted. Then you listed 3 other random dates that were at intervals of 5 years, 8 years, then 11 months. Can that be used to predict the future? If you can find a pattern such as "every 13 games" there will be the number "7" picked would be very helpful.

Also the source of the numbers is questionable. I can understand "possible" pattern based on ping-pong ball drops based on weights of the paint on the balls or something. I can understand "possible" patterns found in RNGs due to various factors. The Illinois Lotto switched from Ball to RNG on 10/01/15, so using data from before that date for "finding patterns" might be useless. Also the numbers shown are the pre-sorted number. If you try based on all the picked numbers as one big string and finding some pattern such as the number 8 is picked every 37th time then 52nd time then 37th, etc, you can't do with a presorted list. The unsorted list is available on the Illinois Lottery youtube channel.

I don't see a pattern in the dates, please explain.

If you look into the "systems" section here in forums you might find some. Unfortunately if you want to test your own "what-ifs" you will have to be able to program.

Excel is very popular here, it can sort and have built in functions. To do more advanced stuff, will probably require programming. Last night Butch was just showing one small quick capability of Excel, and I apologize if I sounded too critical of it.

I use foxpro, with all custom programming. I am also using Power-BI a free Business Intelligence program from Microsoft, all custom queries.

"R" is an excellent statistical programming language, not sure if anybody here uses it.

Google "Gigaloterias", it has a couple different analysis tools built in but it is in Portuguese. It takes different games, finds consecutive numbers, repeated numbers, prime numbers, and gives you predicted numbers based of a couple different methods. Not sure if it does back testing. There is a free version and since I don't understand Portuguese, I don't know how limited it is if any.

As I stated earlier, backtesting is important so it would be nice if the software choice provides it.

Just start in the "systems" folders, if you go into programming you can also check out the mathematics section.

Google "saliu lottery software". Only works with past drawings and finds all kinds of patterns. Very complex but unmatched by other softwares.

I would agree with what others have said in this thread. It seems to be that back testing is key for any level of certainty. None of the software I have or have used backtests. I use a combination of excel and macro scheduler to backtest results of other lottery software, some of which is no longer updated so i half to write scripts to up date the game history.

Your right that software without back testing isnt of much use. The lotto software I mentioned has that feature builtin – its called strategy checking. Its based on repetition of patterns. It shows when groups of filters hit in past draws and how many combos the group generates. Next is a sample that wont cause copyright questions as is a small fragment.

Without a built in function like that a lottery program is nothing more than a random number generator RNG. There is a program analysed in the systems forum. The program has no strategy checking or call it back-testing if you want. The user now can only guess patterns or setting or call them filters if you want. Its all random. its easier to run a RNG without going through hard to follow videos and discussions.

That random program generates for example a sample of 50 lines. The winning odds are 1 in 20 for pick3. You can generate more easily a 20-linhe sample in a simple random generator. Instead of videos, you can simply repeat the generation a few times ‘cos you wont win in the first try or more tries. You can calculate how many times to repeat to get a 50-50 chance to get the first prize with 50 pick3 sets.

Your right that software without back testing isnt of much use. Good thing if you don’t have to pay for that soft.

Not nearly as effective as the software I mentioned. the softwares you mentioned are a little better than RNGs. Those programs apply frequency, skips and wheeling..but none of those strategies hits the jackpot often. Almost never happens to have all top or hottest lotto numbers in the same draw. The wheels dont hide the truth that the chance to win jackpots is very low..

A good RNG gives you a better chance if you follow what I said above. You generate a set of nos and repeat until you have a 5050-chance that your set didn’t hit in all repeats you did. So the chance is better than 50-50 that a win will come in the near future. Maths helps but some people get mad when you show facts that disprove them..

I will say this, 'Flip your own coin, create your own data, create your own lottery draws'.

The centrality lies in the matrix of the game , the premise and regulations. Do not go looking for patterns, but rather generate your own patterns based on assumptions !. Looking for patterns is a mirage, is like looking at a set of trees, they look similar in structure but very different. The so call patterns evolve all the time , why ? mutual exclusivity of each event. Take the basic coin flip, after many flips , the ratio 1/2 is validated , your concern should be 'what's generating H or T', How do you generate H or T?, do they have the same assumptions. Basically, you create your patterns irrespective of the current draw !

FORWARD TESTING BASED ON ASSUMPTION is RISKY, but the PRIZE is higher than BACK TESTING on what has already happened.

Lets take Pick 3 > Anytime there is a spin, you got 1000 combos to consider, this 1000 combo is reduced to the current structure of the pool for you to make a decision.

Percep-Lotron finds a pattern of often drawn numbers and recommends them for use in wheels.

This means you will make a wheel which you will use for a number of future draws.
