Statistics show that most Mega Millions/Powerball jackpot winners come from large population areas such as California, Florida or New York. But the jackpot has been won in smaller states such as North Dakota, Nebraska, Vermont, etc. Im going to go with Virginia because I happen to be part of a lottery pool out of that state but it can truly happen in any state. Good Luck on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It so happens I have a few tickets from SC. Their net payout rounds at $624 million. With two winning tickets that would make the sc net payout for one ticket $312 million... my magic jackpot number!

I'm feeling a $312,000,000.00 jackpot win coming my way!

Lucky lottery states

Perhaps not too surprisingly, most Mega Millions winners from the past five years have hailed from states with larger populations.

New York, the fourth-largest state in the U.S., boasts the most Mega Millions winners with seven overall. California, the largest state, claims the second-most winners with six in total, while Illinois also claims four winners.

Interestingly, state population size hasn’t always translated into Mega Millions success. Texas, the second-largest state in the country, has been home to only two Mega Millions winners over the past five years while mid-sized states like Georgia and Washington claim three and two winners respectively.

The biggest surprise? Rhode Island, the smallest state in the U.S., was still able to claim at least one Mega Millions winner over the past five years.

Lucky lottery numbers

For the Mega Millions lottery drawing, players have a choice of five white balls ranging from numbers one to 70 and one Mega Ball number ranging from one to 25.

Since 2010, the most common white ball number is two, with 92 hits, followed by 20, 11, 31 and 17. Nine is the most hit Mega Ball number.

As the numbers are random, however, there’s no guarantee that the numbers will be chosen for the upcoming drawing. Additionally, as the game has changed over the years, some numbers aren’t always in the drawing mix.

Thanks Todd. If Stack47 wasn't so snarky with the response to the poll. I would have replied. but I figured why bother. No need to go into the weeds with some folks. I noticed that on the last drawing that California had the most 2nd tier winners with 8. Lets see what happens with the powerball. I don't think people will go quite has heavy with buying tickets unless it creeps up to the billion dollar mark.
