As of now the total deaths from coronavirus is just over 5,500 in New York state. Let me give you some death stats for New York state in2016.

Heart disease......... 44,076

Cancer ................. 35,369

Accidents ............. 7,364

Chronic Respiratory 6,860

People with pre-existing conditions and older people over 65 should take precautions.

Point is, this whole thing is being way overblown. Its just not worth destroying our entire economy. Dr. Fauchi stated we can't get back to normal until we have a vaccine? HUH? How about we stop paying him until then, which might never happen.

BTW Todd, thanks for the chance to blow off some steam during all this. Still going out to buy my lottery tickets every day. LOL

You are comparing apples to oranges. The diseases you listed are NOT communicable.

Covid-19 IS. Much more so than the flu. Plus the fact that it can be spread by someone who is infected, and not even be aware they are.

I could very well be wrong on this : But the "reason" the death toll from the virus is so high in both Italy & Spain is because they have a huge elderly population. Besides, they love large family dinners, gathered around, hugging, kissing cheeks etc etc. None of the above is wrong, but that's just my theory.

Italy: 135,000 cases- 17,000 deaths.

Spain: 11,000 plus deaths.

There are a number of reasons that countries like Italy and Spain have a higher death rate.

The president famously closed down travel from China and Europe very early, buying much-needed time that we used to understand the virus better and be better prepared. European countries, on the other hand, called the president racist and xenophobic and kept visitors from China flowing into their countries. In addition to Italy, Spain, and others, Iran is a great example of this, and you can see the impact it had on their country.

Of course, the older population of various countries does affect the rates as well, as does the population's predilection to gather in large groups. This is certainly why you see coronavirus hotspots in the USA in major cities, rather in the suburbs. When you don't own a car and instead ride public transportation everywhere, you are by definition going to be much greater at risk for infection. When people gather in parks, playgrounds, sidewalks, bars, restaurants, etc. in large numbers they are at a far greater risk for infection.

You compare 5,500 NY deaths within about 1 month, against other common deaths over 12 months. Do a little more math and get back to us. I'll give you a hint...5,500 x 12 = ??,???.

Now remember, that 5,500 number is with social distancing and stay at home orders. Try to imagine what that 5,500 number would/could have been if we went with the "just ride it out" mentality.

Anyone saying this whole thing is way overblown shows me that they are misinformed, or they just plain don't respect life, or both.

Please site your source for per capita testing. I am using https://ourworldindata.org/covid-testing and on the overall per capita chart it Italy beat the US along with S. Korea. The chart does not include all countries, but if you click on the country links below the charts you will see Germany also beats us, and probably other countries too. I will also provide, on request, multiple links where hospitals in the U.S. do not have enough test or complete kits to accurately check.

I can also provide the White House own strict testing standards (because we were short on kits) that only allowed people that recently came from overseas or in contact with someone that was. This, of course kept our our infection numbers artificially low.

I can also provide links where Trump refused an infected cruise ship to doc, because he was afraid it will raise his infected numbers.

I can provide links requesting the Military personnel health by not allowing commanders to initiate their own quarantine procedures.

I say I can provide all the links to prove your claims wrong, why should I waste anymore time. You are probably already "TRIGGERED!" and delete this post, like you did my other post that contradicted the lies Fox News and other propaganda networks.

It's not being overblown. Consider a smolder, it's difficult to detect, and therefore difficult to extinguish, and then all of sudden it abrupts into flames, and its too late to put it out. That's whats going on. Thats what the social distancing and the stay at home requests are about.

And as for normal, Los Angeles environment is cleaner than its been in years thanks to the stay at home orders. And crime too has gone way down.. Pretty normal to me. I love it.

The one problem I will mention of course is that it still is a tale of two worlds. The lower socio-economic neighborhoods here in New York have a lot more cases, than the more upper class neighborhoods. Let's get down to it really.
