I happened to notice this again tonight and realized there was a very easy way to do the workup without doing any programming at all. So I did it. But it's still not crystal clear, because if you go far enough back in the histories, many states were only drawing one a day so that affects the answer. And if you go way far back, not that many states were drawing at all. It's apples and oranges to compare that to now. What I did to try to keep to apples and apples, was to limit the search to the year 2006 and on. That's 15 years of draws. I know that's not a perfect solution, but I figure that will get me in the ballpark and if something unusual shows up, then I can look at the data more carefully by hand.
Bearing that in mind, I compiled the list of dates for when 777 has fallen since 1/1/2006 and then did a little bit of spreadsheet work and found that the furthest out that 777 was since 1/1/2006 was 124 days between September 28, 2009 and January 30, 2010.
So, we are far FAR from record territory even accounting for the fact that we have more states drawing now and more states drawing two-a-day than back in 2010.
124 Days? Are you kidding me? Folks are going to be freaking out if the 777 trip completely disappears in all states/provinces/islands for 124 days!
