goal= avoid conflicting filters

Warning! Don't do this at home! "... where all numbers are odd AND all numbers are even;". There is no conflict, the filters work fine and you get 0 lines.

When you go back to the Gail Howard book she uses filters separate and conjunctive as markers to where the game is going.
Probably wouldn't be any reason, and do very little to know how many odd or even is in each sum, but you could do it.

You could combine hi/lo and e/o and came up with HEHOLELO, HOHOHO, HEHEHE, LELELE and a LOLOLO.

RL had the best idea of filters with his total digits, mixed digits, double digits, and prime numbers. Whatever you can break down into sets, know how many should occur, and track.

Combining them will often lead to confusion.

ok, garyo1954, thanks for the answer, i was thinking about the veen chart, to set up a strategy to organize the filters in a matrix with veen charts

Your filtering application or wheel should handle it. Either with some sort of table backed lookup(easier for smaller games < 10000 combinations) or some smart rule backed by algorithms on a case by case basis - it's upto the developer.

As some have pointed out, very basic things like even and odd overlapping filters should be straightaway caught by your filtering program. You will endup writing more logic but at the end you will get an alert before running the wheel rather than wait for the fulll wheel to run and come back empty.

Confusion -> result -> understanding by doing -> self-correction

At some point the user hit so many buttons that he shrunk the full set to 0 lines.
The next time the user had like a tenth of his lines left and didn't have any option to shrink the set with coverage.
The user then picked unluckily of the 1000 lines SL spit out. ... Not all users are in the state X where a certain filter works.
Tickets there cost more? ...

There is a simple way to test if filters are configured to accidentally remove all possibilities:
1. Go to the Deflate 3 tool
2. Select the option to include all straight combinations
3. Leave the Input area blank
4. Open the Filters area and choose your filters
5. Click the Deflate Combinations button. If there are any straight combinations that have not been eliminated, you know your filters are complementary and do not conflict. If it tells you "The filters selected excluded all the combinations in your list" then you know you have conflicting filters.
The same can be done with Pick 4 and Pick 5 using Deflate 4 and Deflate 5.
