Does anybody know how to calculate the number of combos of five numbers in sequence for a 5/36 matrix?

For instance 1 2 3 4 5 is the first combo and 32 33 34 35 36 is the last combo. How many combos of five numbers in sequence are between those two? Thanks. G5

Not that I'm actually gonna play five numbers in sequence. In Florida Fantasy5 it's happened once when 14 15 16 17 18 came out on 3/21/2011. That's out of 7,722 drawings since 7/16/2001.

Not that I'm actually gonna play five numbers in sequence. In Florida Fantasy5 it's happened once when 14 15 16 17 18 came out on 3/21/2011. That's out of 7,722 drawings since 7/16/2001.

Wish I could knock out some lines of code to count the number of five number lines that are in sequence in a 5/36 matrix but I cant. Anybody got a program or can put one together without laboring over it for hours? Thanks in advance. G5

But how many combos out of the 376,992 total combo's have 5 numbers in sequence? Combo's that look like this ===> 14 15 16 17 18? THAT is my question!

I've been doing a little thinking... that's rare for me.... and maybe I can figure it out if I just take a little time and write out them on paper. Maybe there aren't as many as I think there might be. G5

Don't nobody do NUTHIN!! I figured it out! There are 32 combo's in a 5/36 matrix of five numbers in sequence. I just wrote all of 'em out on a piece of paper.

For some stupid reason, I was thinking there were way more than 32. But then, I'm The Stupid One.... G5

Raven got the number for consecutive number combos. Stat$ is talking out his a$$ as usual.

Even though you didn't ask for it, here's a little more analysis of combos that form a linear progression in FL Fantasy 5 (aka, each number differs by the same amount when they are arranged in numerical order). Consecutive numbers are just one type of linear progression.
- Differ by 1 (ex: 1-2-3-4-5): 32 combos (this is what you're looking at)
- Differ by 2 (ex: 4-6-8-10-12): 28 combos (consecutive evens and consecutive odds)
- Differ by 3 (ex: 20-23-26-29-32): 24 combos
- Differ by 4 (ex: 13-17-21-25-29): 20 combos
- Differ by 5 (ex: 9-14-19-24-29): 16 combos
- Differ by 6 (ex: 10-16-22-28-34): 12 combos
- Differ by 7 (ex: 2-9-16-23-30): 8 combos
- Differ by 8 (ex: 3-11-19-27-35): 4 combos
(Total number of linear progression combos is 144.)

And then there are other types of progressions. For example, quadratic progressions are where the numbers are consecutive outputs of a quadratic polynomial, or equivalently where the difference between the numbers increases at a linear rate rather than staying constant. The best examples of these are consecutive square numbers and consecutive triangular numbers, e.g. 1-4-9-16-25, 4-9-16-25-36, 1-3-6-10-15, 3-6-10-15-21, etc.

Geometric progressions are also possible. This where the numbers increase by a constant factor. You can only do powers of 2 when the field of numbers is 36. Examples: 1-2-4-8-16, 2-4-8-16-32.

Lots of directions you can branch out into if you like sequences and that sort of thing.

The above post is very likely the single best post I've ever seen on The Lottery Post. Thanks very much for going the extra mile and giving me info on linear progressions that I hadn't even considered or even knew of. (Which is more the case... I wasn't a fan of math in school. I knew it could be fascinating as Hell, but because I didn't want to be a good student, I basically didn't bother to study it. I'm the type of guy that got a 'C' without cracking a book. I've often wondered what my grades would have been like if I decided not to be so lazy and be a good student.) Now I'm old and gray and I've got a few regrets when it comes to my schooling. Coulda woulda shoulda.

The reason why I decided to ask about the number of consecutive combo's is because I figured if there are a whole bunch of them, then I could tell people not to play them and by ignoring them because they never come out players could reduce the odds from 376,992 to 1 to whatever... 32 combo's doesn't do much with regard to lowering the over all odds. BUT!! While the total of 144 other linear progressions doesn't reduce odds dramatically, it might pay to be smart and know enough not play those either because my guess is they haven't come out in Florida Fantasy5 very often either. But ya gotta know what those progressions actually look like to avoid playing them.

The probability of such a consecutive sequence is 1/11781, which is 32/COMBIN(36,5). The cumulative probability of the 1st occurrence of this event on drawing 7722 or before, according to the Negative Binomial distribution, is 48.1%, which is close to the median (50%). There is nothing particularly unusual about what occurred.
