Time Line: British luxury ocean liner The Royal Mail Ship: TITANIC foundered in the North Atlantic off Newfoundland more than 2 1/2 hours after hitting a mysterious iceberg- 1514 people died under the waves~~~~~~
Approximately, 111 years ago the self cursed TITANIC which was called the largest moving object on earth, so great that even the gods could destroyed it, was taken to the seas for it's maiden voyage. The TITANIC was noted as the fastest and most comfortable.. The TITANIC was a passenger ship, was built in Ireland was constructed by the White Star Line and it took 3 years to get ready, The TITANIC was luxurious, fanciest ship sans gambling parlor, people had ever seen. It was also the biggest , at a length of 900 feet which is as long as three foot ball fields. t was thought to be n sinkable.
The shp was lauched and st out from Southampton, England headed for the Grand City of New York on April 10th, 1912 on it's first voyage. There were 2,240 on board. The single hull of the ship was made up of 16 individual sections, it could hold up to three sections of water if it was damaged and the ship would still be safe.
ICE BERG AHEAD
Right after midnight hour on April 15th the TITANIC hit an unseen iceberg by inches. Four sections of the hull were breached and the ship began to slowly sink.
The ship captain, Edward, John, Smith and crew began frantically began sending telegraph .O.S.S, distress to ships that were near by , hoping that they were would be able to rescue passengers. The crew swiftly began hand lading out life jackets and boarding on to
lifeboats for survive, tragically however there were only 20 lifeboats on board which could carry no more than half the people on the ship. Men insisted that women and children be the first to be seats on the lifeboats.
tHe TITANIC eventually broke apart and settled on the bottom of the Great Atlantic ocean.
The carpathia, a ship that had seen the distressed signals immediately changed course to help the people on the TITANIC arrive dived at 3:30 in the morning roughly after the doomed ship
had sunk. Since the waves was extremely cold , the people who were not in life boats didn't stand a chance of curving, literally in ice water.
By the time the Carpahia arrived only the people in lifeboats could be saved about 700 passengers and crew were saved.
In memoriam:
In May 1831 a TITANIC memorial was dedicated in Washington DC. This special memorial honors the men who bravely gave their lives so that children and women could be saved.
