I posted this info about Florida's Jackpot Triple Play in The PICK5 Forum's Florida Fantasy5 Players thread but thought I'd put it here too.
Although there aren't many jackpot winners with JPT, you really are better off playing it than FF5.
All JPT jackpot winners have won at least multi-hundred thousand dollar jackpots. Some have won more than a million. FF5 winners don't win greater than $100,000 all that often. If you look at the FF5 Top Prize Winners and Retailer Information report, you'll notice that more often than not, the jackpot payout is less than $100,000.
In addition, there has never been a JPT jackpot split equally among multiple winners. The game can be pari-muteul, but not enough players play it to force a split jackpot. Each and every JPT jackpot was paid to one winner only. FF5 jackpots are regularly won by more than one player. The guy or gal that does not have to share a FF5 jackpot with somebody else is a very lucky player.
Sure the odds are 3 million to 1 to win a JPT jackpot whereas FF5's odds are 376,992 to 1. Everybody likes FF5, but JPT not so much. That's why JPT jackpots usually grow to $2 million. Where else can you get 3 million to 1 odds to win a possible $2 million for $1.00?
In addition there have been six JPT jackpot winners with a Free Ticket... Two of those six won $1.4 million each.
I always buy the Combo Option when I play JPT. You get three lines for $1.00. (or 33 cents per line without the Combo, so when adding The Combo, the price per line goes up to 66 cents per line) Considering that I'm OK with paying $3.00 per line when I play PowerBall (I always buy The PowerPlay Option) 66 cents per line looks dirt cheap to me.
I should add something else too. And that's that nobody has ever won $2 million playing JPT. Even though The Florida Lottery says you can win $2 million, because no player has ever won a $2 million jackpot and elected the Annual Payments Option, nobody has ever won $2 million. The Cash Option will pay you about $1.4 million before taxes. I guess that amounts to about $1 million after taxes. G5
