  For over a hundred years the entertainment industry has been bombarding us with monsters, witches and more, begging the question.  Does real magic actually exist?  Not really talking the Charmed, Harry Potter, David Copperfield stuff.  Does even the smallest of magic exist?  Again not powers like in Ghost.  Our society is based on magic not existing because it would collapse were it to be true.  If magic were real, could it be used to win the lottery?  In many ways the lottery is already constructed to thwart success at such an endeavor treating such an attempt as counterfeiting where the changed numbers wouldn't match the coding.  There would also be the ethics of stealing part of other winners' jackpots.  Perhaps only the daily numbers games would lend themselves to being won by the magical arts divining the numbers to play.  Can't see how a cauldron of frogs and newts is going to magically pick winning numbers, though open to suggestions.   The web thinks wealth spells work or are the least provable one way or the other, but I wouldn't put money on it.

  I'd like to keep an open mind. May be a secret society of magicians as in the movie Now You See Me. Of course those guys were street magicians, unlike Harry and his castle crew. 

  Riding broomsticks? Probably not.although I do have my kids genuine replica Harry Pottery wand made from real wood if I ever find myself confronted by Voldemort. To my knowledge nothing ever flew off shelves or metamorphed when it was in use. But perhaps I'm ignorant in the "How to" and proper words to enunciate. Or just as likely the wand chose the kid and won't work for me 

  Still my practical side insists that boiling frogs and newts, even with the addition of butterfly snot and ant pee won't cause more harm than stink up the kitchen. Might smell better than my cooking but not by much.

  I did know a woman once who, in a tiff with her mother-in-law, claimed to put a spell on the old woman telling her she would never see the grandkids.

  That much was true. The couple was divorced the following year, never having had any children. In that respect her spell worked.

  Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners. 

  

  There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

  Interesting, are you suggesting Big Trouble In Little China isn't based on actual events?  Would seem education by entertainment is misdirection.  That there is a tact agreement between the magic world and the magick (comes up as misspelled) world where there is no limit on what magic can do in media, while magick seems more like the Law of Attraction (in my opinion).
  
  Wonder if any of the "rules" of magic apply, such as it takes more energy to magic up a chicken salad sandwich then one gets back by eating it.  Can any magick user conjure up a chicken sandwich and would anyone want to eat it, not knowing where that chicken has been?

  Magick, like Aleister Crowley, English occultist, philosopher, and founder of a religion. Some called him the devil incarnate. I read a bit about him years ago (when Supernatural was on television).

  I don't want to conjure chicken sandwiches though. Learning magick to eat should be worth a bar-b-qued brisket, potato salad and beans. With ribs and sausage too.

  Real magic, the kind where you wiggle your nose like Samantha would be more to my liking. Having a genie like Jeanie, would be all the better. Of the Charmed witches I'd choose Piper, but end up with something green like the wicked witch in Oz.

  Perhaps it's possible. And like everything we can't explain or understand through science we explain away.

  If one could use it to win the lottery how often would it work? Has anyone tried? 

  I suppose the first rule is it is not to be taken lightly. A true belief in it working and your ability to produce the desired outcome is a serious undertaking. 

  Interesting question to think about.

  I knew a lot of Korean people who said they had actually seen some of the events that happened in Big Trouble in Lillte China. 

  I sprn 2 + tours in Korea and lived there as a civilian for some months. When guys were rotating back to the states we took them to a Korean fortune teller amd a lot of them walked opit of there completely freaked out. "No way, just no way that Korean woman could know all that."

  Doing a quick search you'll find a supposed CIA document along these lines. It actually deal with higher conscious but touches on mind over matter. It discusses an experiment  at the Monroe Institute, offered now as an online class ($1120) for the course 

  The bibliography lists books and articles about journeys out if the body, mystic spirals, and altered states of consciousness. All were publishes before 1983 so whether they are available or not is a question.

  It's worth looking into imo. It is time consuming inasmuch as magic also beings up stage magic and magicians tricks.

  Realizing this thread is starting to look like a Calvin and Hobs story arc where one needed to start learning magick in grade school so as to take revenge on all those who said I'll amount to nothing, by winning the lottery and buying the school where they work and firing them all for incompetence, or I'll blow up this planet and take everyone with me.  You with me Hobs?

  I'm with you Bob. I chatter on the lighter side, but getting a curious interest in the subject. Hogwart Harry doesn't catch so much as the CIA parapsychology.

  There are experiences people, some claiming you can't, some claiming you can, travel through time in an out of body experience. They do agree that you can't read number or letters when out of the body. 

  Movies and television seem to agree as well. And time we see a precog or clairvoyant helping someone they can describe the event, the area, building, signs and other features but can't read the address. Same with Charmed. They scry for a general are on a map. When what's her face has visions she can't see the important details like who, when, and where. 

  In that light it reminds me too of Kreskin, the mind-reader/magician with his bauble on a chain.

  I was never really attracted to women with a wart on their nose anyway.

  As I've found I cannot read anything but the largest text in dreams, as in I can read or gork the Out of Order sign on the restroom doors in dream land, when I really need to get up and go.   Still, out of body, someone once said to imagine opening a file cabinet, taking out a paper and learning the winning draw numbers from it.  We do need to separate out  the excuses of charlatans from the reality of what may be possible for some.
