Florida lottery needs to sell there own online tickets..so many other states have it you can play scratch off's even progressive jackpot games you can even fill out the claim form online dont even have to go to lotto office....get with it Florida Lotto its almost 2025

The news story is not accurate. The Lotter unilaterally shut down its Florida offerings many months ago (I think it was earlier than the summer) after the Florida Lottery pushed back. However, it was and is most certainly not illegal. They just don't operate in states where the lottery is not friendly.

Local news stations do not understand the legal nuances (and they don't take the time to publish them to low-info readers), so don't expect a local news station to be accurate here. That's what Lottery Post is for. We'll give the actual facts. Even the lottery itself will probably not give an accurate accounting, because some states just don't want to have couriers active in their state. But, their dislike of couriers does not make them actually illegal.

Just look at the headline, which says The Lotter is "selling lottery tickets". That right there shows that they have no idea what they are talking about. Couriers do not "sell lottery tickets". They BUY lottery tickets on behalf of other people. The tickets never belong to the courier. It's like saying that your DoorDash driver is selling you dinner.

For many years, the official Powerball website called courier services "illegal", even though they were not illegal. Many states did the same. They were, and are, legal, for those couriers that operate above the board. But in states that are hostile to couriers, it's not worth the cost and risk of going to court over it.

If its not illegal they shouldnt have shut down who cares if Florida lotto is friendly or not this is business if i can do this legally who cares about your push back if it is legal should not or could not be any pushback now thats accurate dont need a news article to know that

I have heard about this courier thing in other states and they have approval from the lottery in there state to operate they can buy scratch offs and all on behalf of another player

That is a challenging sentence to read. You seem to disagree with something, but I can't tell what.

A company won't do business if they are going to be constantly harassed in court and forced to spend more in legal fees that what it would take to operate there. If Florida is going to go after them — even if Florida ultimately is not successful in court — it makes no sense to endure that as a company. So I totally understand why TheLotter (or any other lottery courier) would not do business in the state.

I see your point, and they were still offering their services as of this week as I was using their website at times when I was unable to stop by the store and play. The site tells you its currently unavailable to purchase tickets as of a few days ago, and I wondered why they canceled my tickets but seeing that news story lets me know what happened. I think the news story is just "clickbait" per usual as that's what the news does.

Yeah, I've wanted them to do online play for a long time as my home state of Georgia has it and so does my sister's state NC.
