When looking at non replacement draws in sorted order, there are numbers that will be excluded from each column just by sorting.
For example, in a 6/49...
First column range is 1 to 44
Second column range is 2 to 45
Third column range is 3 to 46
Fourth column range is 4 to 47
Fifth column range is 5 to 48, and
Sixth column range is 6 to 49.
With sorting, a 1 could never be anywhere else but column 1 and a 49 can only be found in column 6. This fact does not help in picking winners, but it is still a fact.
You can tell it has an effect if you count numbers by position vs numbers in the overall history. The 1 and 49 appear at an inflated rate in their respective columns, but the overall count across all 6 columns shows a different frequency, particularly those numbers not bound by column range.
A specific example is with the PA Match 6. In sorted order a 1 appears as the most frequent low digit, yet when counting across all of the columns, a 4 is the most frequent low digit. Of course, the balls do not know their frequencies between draws, so picking a 1 or 4 to start is just as valid as any number...
