Hey VD, I know you have said that prayers don't work for "personal gain" etc. But, I found 3 prayers on a legitimate website. These 3 prayers were posted by 3 different people, and these people claim that the prayers do work. Here they are:
Prayer To St. Jude (intercessor of Hopeless Situations)
1)Oh Holy St. Jude Apostle and martyr great in virtue and rich in miracles near kinsman of Jesus Christ Faithful Intercessor who invoke your special patronage in time of need To you I have recourse from the depth of my heart . I humbly beg to whom GOD has given such great power to come to my assistance .In return I promise to make your name know and cause you to be invoked. Say 3 Our Fathers, 3 Hail Mary's and 3 Gloria's. Publication must be promised . Oh Holy St. Jude pray for us all who invoke your patronage in our time of need.
This novena must be said for 9 consecutive days and has never been known to fail
----------------------
Novena Publication.
We, Mikette and John would like to say thank you to Saint Claire for her intercession for our respective needs.
We have prayed the Saint Claire Novena and put our trust and faith in Jesus and His Holy Mother.
2)Hail Mary Full of Grace,

Blessed art thou amongst women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus,
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death,
Amen
Say the HAIL MARY, Nine times per day with a lighted candle for Nine days. Ask for the impossible - 1 Business and 2 personal Intentions. May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised, adored, glorified and loved today and everyday throughout the world forever and ever. Amen.
Promise to publish at the end of the Novena
-----------------------
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
3)Holy Spirit, You who make me see everything and showed me the way to reach my ideals, You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me and You who are in all instances of my life with me. I want to thank you for everything and confirm once more that i never want to be separated from You no matter how great the material desire may be. I want to be with You and my loved ones in Your perpetual glory.
Amen
Mention your request. While making the request, you must promise either to (a) publish the prayer or (b) to circulate the favour.
This prayer should be said for 3 consecutive days. After the 3rd day, the reqauest will be granted, no matter how difficult it may be.

thank's for writing to me. i don't know how many of my post's that you have read and just so there is no mis-understanding i want to make sure that you undestand that i am in favor of prayer. i live my life by it. someone reading my post's may come to the conclusion that i am saying that you can't ask god for certain thing's and that is not true. god want's us to come to him with EVERY area of our life. we do that thru prayer. i guess that this would be a good time to define what "prayer" is and what it is not. the trouble comes when people get the wrong idea about what prayer is. and let me say this, my opionion, your opionion and anyone's opinion doesn't mean anything unless it is the exact representation of what god say's about the subject. afterall, he is the one we pray "to" and he is the one who sets the rules-not us. he is the ultimate authority and what we say or how we feel doesn't matter. and we can know how god feels about any given subject by going to his word ( the bible ). now after going to his word and then deciding that we are going to think what we want then we are disregarding god's authority and "making up the rules" ourselves. that is a big mistake and only leads to false hope. what prayer is: prayer first and foremost is "worship". it is acknowledging to god that he is god and that he is in control and that he knows better than we do. it is realizing that we were created to be subject to his authority and "prayer" is acknowledging that. an example : "god, i come to you with a concern in my life. now i know that i could do whatever i want because you have created me with a free-will but i realize that you know better than i do the road that i should take. what do "YOU" want me to do and when you give me the answer, i will obey because you are god - and i am not". do you see the tone here? you/we/me are "not" telling god what to do! we are asking god for his guidence and then when he gives the answer ( which he will in his time and according to "his" will )we adjust our lives to it.prayer is continuing a relationship that developes over time. but if you are praying in the right manner, the "tone" of your prayer is ALWAYS one that is in subjection to god's purpose and plan for your life, not the other way around. it is never trying to give god his marching orders.the right prayer( and what prayer really is) is getting on the same page that god is already on!.( finding out what god is or intends to do with our life and then getting ourselves aligned with that.) me/you/we cannot manipulate god into doing anything that he dosn't want to do no matter how much we "sacrifice", no matter what "spiritual word's" that you say. if god does not see that what you are praying for is in your best interest ( despite how much we think that it would be), he is not going to do it period. even if you would use common sense and not fully understand how god work's you would realize that some people win the lottery and some don't. i guarantee you there are people ( maybe even godly people) who "beg" god to let them win ( even incorporating the so-called "special prayers) everytime there is a drawing.especially when the pot is big (LOL).god picks who he wants to win and who he doesn't. the danger that i continue to warn people against is that you can pray some special hocus-pocus words and then god is suddenly obligated to do what you have asked him . that is not true and in fact is a downright lie and a gross mis-representation of who god is and how he work's. what he has done for one, does not necessarily mean he will do for another. but there is no harm in asking. but if you/me/we are using god just for what we can get then we are in trouble anyway because god will not allow himself to be "played". god is "Not" our servant, we "should be"-his. the problem also that these "special prayer" suggestions breed is nothing but false hope. false hope is really no hope at all, it is actually worse. if you think that you might get something that you actually never will in the end will make you feel worse and actually- "hopeless". is that what you would like to do, give people false hope? i am being realistic when i accuretly represent god by saying if it is included in his plan for your life it will happen. if it isn't, it won't.and i must address something else in your post that is equally false and dangerous and mis-represents who god is and how he work's. the first two "prayer's" that you wrote out described within there context about praying to "saints". god has warned us about this practice in his word (the bible) by saying that the only one that you pray to is GOD and GOD alone. if you pray to a saint your are effectively praying to a man ( a created being ). and that is stictly forbidden. remember what i said, prayer is WORSHIP and when you pray to a man (no matter how good they were) they are still only a man and are no diferrent in god's sight than us. man has given "saints" that distintion, not god. you cannot pray to a man or woman or anyone else for help, only to god. if you do then you are violating god's laws. besides, they cannot hear you and i anyway. there are dead. only god can hear our prayer's and when he does he decides what he is going to do and then it is up to us if we will adjust ourselves to the answer or not. write me back if you wish ( ihope that you will ). in the meantime, "finetune" how you pray more than what you pray and then you will be on the right track....visiondude

this whole situation is so bizarre. i never intended to post messages in here. i just came to this site to look up info on the mega millions and then someone made some comment about how you can say some hocus-pocus prayer and that god is now obligated to let you win. i don't know, i just couldn't let someone say that knowing how many people that are out there that are desperate. sure i want to defend god and how he really work's, but really i would like to give people real hope. i know what it is like for someone to tell me something that isn't true just to make me feel good for the moment and how empty that is. give it to me straight even if i don't orginally like the message. i can live with the truth, it's the lies that make for a hopeless un-fullfilling life. it's a better way to live. i too at different times in my life have fell for situations that included false hope and remember what that added up to - nothing. so if i can defend the weak and desperate and provide some "real" hope ( in god alone) then i will have done my job..thank's for the encouragement.......visiondude

I found those 3 prayers on a prayer website. I didn't post the prayers, I just found them and then posted them here. And the posters claim that the prayers work. You made a strong agrument. I agree that praying to man made "saints" might not get you anywhere. But, I was told that you can pray to anyone in "heaven". BUT, THE VIRGIN MARY IS A EXCEPTION! She was NOT man made! And the APOSTLE St. Jude! Jude was one the APOSTLES! If you could only pray to GOD, then why is there the HAIL MARY!! You can pray to Jesus, God, Virgin Mary or any or holy being. And the BIBLE, WAS MADE BY MAN TOO!! Not, everything in the Bible is true! I agree that God does what he wants to do. Toodle Loo!

donuta, please except my apology in advance if i come off a bit abrupt, i do not mean to. my quest in these post's is to help people understand who god is. in the course of trying to accomplish that then i must also represent who god isn't if we are to play fair in any kind of discussion about god.it is also never my intention to offend anyone as i realize that people have differing opionions. one thing i will never do is compromise the truth in favor of being politically correct. this world is going down hill to a certain degree because people are afraid to stand up for the truth just because they are afraid that they will offend someone(political correctness). god's own word "offend's" at times because as we say "the truth can hurt". but coming full circle, alignment with the truth will put us on the correct path. make no mistake, god is not like his creation who can't make up there minds about what they really believe. god has made it perfectly clear about what he expects of us and that includes every subject that you and i can think of. we get our selves into trouble when we dis-respect gods's authority and make up our own rules. it is comepletly ludicrous to think that god doesn't care about what we do or say. he does and has made it plain in his word (the bible). of course the bible was written by man, but it was written by man as they were inspired by the holy spirit. and that is what sets it apart from any other book that has ever been written throughout history. you can trust the bible (even though you may not understand alot of it) because of prophecy. god "fore-telling " of his plan for man. the bible has NEVER failed to fulfill the prophecies that god has fore-told in the time that it said it would. people say that the bible isn't all true because they have never subjected thier life to it and allowed god to reveal that what he said is true. most people have relied on heresay from other people or have limited knowledge. but the major reason that people "write off" the bible as just some great literarry book is because if they "consent" to it actually being the word's of god to man, then they will have to align themselves to it. and they don't want that so they do the pick and choose method. "i believe this part because i like what this part says, but i reject this part because i don't like what this part says and i don't want to have to do it." it is either "all" of gods word or it isn't. it either can be fully trusted, or not at all. there is no in-between on this issue. hang all of your life on it , or none at all. we cannot "pick and choose". even a good parent wouldn't let there child get away with that approach to life. and i know that god doesn't either. god is definitive in what he has to say to us. this is the part also that people don't get. they think that they can do or believe anything that they want and that there are no consequences ( wrong !!) god himself states ( not my word's / not my interpretation - HIS WORD'S ) " for EVERYONE will stand before the judgement seat of christ to give an account for what we have believed ). so god is the ultimate authority and that totally negates the possibility of "differing" opinions. you and i even in our free-will state are not entitled to our own opinions (unless of course we don't care what god has to say ). but if a person cares about what god has to say, then don't take my word for it or anyone elses. you have personal responsibility to know what you believe. some of the things that you have said to me leads me to believe that you have relied on someone else for your insight about who god is. i am not in any way attacking you, that is not my style. my style if you will is to point people in the correct direction ( and there is only one path to god- not many )and to get you to think for yourself. when you stand before god you will not be able to blame anyone else for what you believe, you will stand alone before him. it is serious business. i am going to address some of your statements concerning what you can do and can't do as you are pursuing a right relationship with god. remember, he makes the rules, we don't. fall in line with those rules ( and don't deviate ) and you/i will live a life pleasing to god. rule #1 = you CANNOT pray to ANYONE other than god. god's word leaves no open room for interpretation on this one no matter who told you. prayer is worship and only god can recieve worship. god has said "i will not share my glory with another. i am god and there is NONE beside me". god has warned us from the book of genesis to the book of revelation, you must pray (worship) to him alone. anything else is in violation of god's word and most of all - his authority. god does not "defer" his authority to anyone. no one else has to handle gods business. you go straight to him about your concerns and not thru another.you cannot pray to man. you cannot pray to a "saint". you cannot pray to the virgin mary . i know that will make some people mad because of what they have been taught. but remember what i said earlier in my post, i will defend god's word even if it is "politically incorrect". god says that we cannot worship "any" created being . mary has a special place in history and the plan of god (as do "saints") as she alone was chosen by god to bear the christ child. as important of a role as that is- she is NOT god and therefore cannot be prayed to. mary ,the "saints" and any other person that religion (not god )has exalted to that level - is dead and they cannot hear you. as far as the many different claims in life that people make (no matter how "spiritual" they may sound, prayers ,etc.)the true and only test about whether it is from god or not (only his opinion matters )is whether it "lines up" with what god's word has to say.and there is only one way to find that out, spending personal time in gods word. get to know what it says for yourself so that you can rightly divide what is truth and what are things that people make up that falsely represents god. we will ALL give an account on that day about what we have believed. i encourage you to think for yourself and not take any ones word for it. if you don't know maybe it is because up until this time you haven't made it your priority. if you make it your priority then you will know for certainty what you really beleive. it is a precarious position to "ride on the backs" of another for our eternal destiny, yet people do it all the time instead of finding out for themselves. they do not take into account the eternal consequences of what we have "chosen" to believe. the tone of this conversation is meant to encourage, not condemn. it is not my job to judge the hearts of men ( women ) it is my job to provide people with the necessary tools to experience an effective relationship with god. that can only be accomplished by telling the whole truth, not bits and pieces of the truth. read the bible for yourself than tell me if i am right about what i have told you. if you do not take the time to find out then how can you/me/ayone say for certainty what it says. i know what it says not because of what someone told me but by the amount of time i spend reading about what god has to say. that is the only "license" that i posseses that says that i can speak about how god really feels. i hope that we can dialog some more, with much respect..........visiondude

How about Jesus? I believe that you can, because Jesus is not dead! He was resurrected! Pray to Jesus, he will do anything!.....and what about the "Coran" or the "Torah"! There are many different faiths! Praise Ala! Is Ala God? Do most religions worship the same god? Hindus believe in reincarnation and Budhists believe in Budha! Please, address all my comments Mr. Dude!

first of all "happy birthday to me"!!!!! and no i am not a know it all and i don't pretend to know everything. however i can speak with great confidence (not arrogance) about who god is and who god is not. there is only one god and one way to god. and EVERYONE can know that for themselves and for certainty. but as i stated in previous posts,if anyone is to have a relationship with god you/i must come to him on "his terms". people try to make up there own rules and that is why there are so many "gods" and so many different "religions". man has created religion as an attempt to be right with god. all attempts to be right with god thru good works (which is the design behind religion ) is futile. god has made a way to be right with him and that is thru christ alone. he did for us what we cannot do for ourselves. you are right, you can pray to jesus. i neglected to point that out(how did i miss that one?). i stated that no one can pray to anyone except to god alone because prayer is worship and one can only worship god.( i still can't believe i forgot to make this clear previously) the reason that you can pray to jesus is that he (jesus) claimed to be god who came to earth in the form of man to die specically for us.all the "other" ways to god fall short based on the claim of christ alone. jesus said : "i am the way, iam the truth and i am the life, no one comes to the father but thru me". jesus claimed to be "the way", not "a way" to god. buddah claimed he knew the way, mohammed did also. many so called prophets down thru history claimed to know the way. there have also been many people that claim to be christ also. but those people are dead in there graves !!! ( you might be able to go around the corner and find someone who is drunk or delierious that claims to be christ - lol ). jesus claimed that he was god and proved it by ressurecting "himself" from the dead. he ressurected HIMSELF' NO ONE BUT GOD HAS THE POWER/AUTHORITY TO DO THAT AND THATS WHAT MAKES CHRIST WHO HE CLAIMED HE WAS. it is not a correct arguement to say that most religions are the same. the deciding factor is always christ (i am the way....). hindu's litterally have hundred's of god's ( they worship cow's). as ridiculous as that sounds (worshippping cow's) it is no different than praying to a saint. you are still "missing the mark" either way. you only have to miss the mark by a little to be lost for eternity. buddah claimed that he knew the way and even though some of what he said are good principles to live by (even for christians)he stll misses the mark. you cannot deal with the sin issue (sin seperates us from god) thru good teaching or good work's-only thru the death on the cross by christ for YOU PERSONALLY. allah is the god that muslims pray to, but they do not go thru christ.muslims believe that jesus was a good "prophet".they give more credence to mohammed than jesus. jesus is still alive and mohammed is dead and in his grave. muslims (the koran) will tell you that they pray to the same god as the jews (the torah),the father of abraham, issac and jacob.therey're roots are the same. where they split on what the beleive is that muslims way heavily on the teachings of mohammed (which the jews reject)as the way to god - good work's. we have seen this "played out" recently thru world events were muslims believe that it is an "honor" to die for what they believe and that they will be "exalted" for it.you don't even want to know what the penalty is for dieing for the wrong god. mohammed atta , they guy who flew the jet into the world trade center was surprised when he died and who he was standing in front of. it wasn't mohammed or his version of god (allah). he was surprised at the prescence of jesus christ- which he rejected.as noble as he thought his death might be, he now faces eternity apart from god.the jews beleive thru the teachings of the torah (the law as given by god- remember the ten commandments?) you can be right with god- still good work's. while the torah WAS given to us by god, it's intention is two fold. both of which the jews miss and reject. (jews also believe that jesus was a good teacher but reject that he is they're saviour). the torah was given to show us (ten commandments)that we are ALL guilty before god. the old testament states : "there is none that is righteous, no not one. all are guilty before me".the second and most important reason that god gaves us the torah was to shows us that even though we could not reconcile our own sin, that he would by sending christ. the torah ( the law-the old testament) primarily points to christ. there are hundreds of prophecies about the coming christ throughout the old testament (even though the jews turn there head on the scriptures that point to him). where he would be born, how he would die, who would betray him, that he would ressurect himself, that he would be tortured in addition to his death on the cross, that he would be "sold" for thirty pieces of silver (judas iscariot), on and on and on.these are things that mostly you cannot control. you cannot control were you were born and at what time in history for example. there are somewhere close to 300 prophecies about christ in the old testament. if you only take (8) of them, the mathematical probability of those (8) coming to pass EXACTLY as they were "predicted" would be the same as taking the state of texas and covering it with silver dollars two feet deep. then taking one silver dollar and painting it red and hiding it somewhere in texas in the "pile". then blind folding someone ( or you can use stevie wonder if you like - lol )and giving them one chance at reaching down and finding that red silver dollar. that is only (8), there are over 300 of them and the jews (and alot of other's ) reject who jesus claimed to be.but here is the deciding factor in knowing for sure that jesus is who he claimed to be. he is ressurected ( that is by the way an established historical fact backed up by eye witness accounts, it is not a myth). and seeing how he is ressurected that means that if that were true than he is still alive. and here comes the best part of all, he can speak to you PERSONALLY to prove that he is alive and that he is your (and mine and everyone's) GOD. but, he makes up the rules. if you want to know him you must play by "his rules". you cannot come to him however you want to and expect him to reveal himself to you, he doesn't work that way.you must be willing that after god holds his up his end of the bargain, that you will keep yours. your'e end of the bargain= he requires that you give up your " whole" life. you do it a little at a time each day as god gives you the knowledge and the strength to do it. you recognize then that he is god and you are now subject to his authority. a recap : there is only one god and one way to god- thru jesus christ alone. you have personal responsibility in this most crucial matter. it is the most important matter in all of life. what you chose to believe determines where you/i spend eternity. when you die you cannot reverse that decision. either with god (because we played by his rules) or seperated from god with no chance of reconciliation (because we have played by "our" rules). you don't have to take my word for it then wait till you die to find out if i am right about this issue, you can know right now by going to him yourself. and if you play by the "rules" he will show himself to you and you will never have to worry about whether god is real and what is the right way. hope i answered your questions. let me know if you have more. the only reason that i can speak with any knowledge and/or authority on the subject is because i realized that one day i will stand before god and i better have my "stuff" straight. i not only know what i believe but i know what everyone else teaches. i have made it the priority of my life. people don;t know because they are lazy and refuse to put in the "time". they don't want to know or serve

Let's say you let God take over your life. Then, a few months or years later, you say "Forget it, I want out!" Are you allowed to take your life back? 99.9% of all people live their life the way they want to, only a few let God take over.
-
blinddude, it seems from your statement that few people give up your whole life that you are not blind at all.you are right, few people let god do with them as he sees fit. most people "compartmentalize" god. they give him certain areas of thier lives while shutting the doors on other areas. god does give us a free-will and because he is a gentleman (figurativly speaking) he will not "kick down" the doors of our life. god interjects his love into our lives in hopes that we will surrender all and then waits to see if we will let him into the areas of our life that we have been holding as off limits. this is very important: god's word says that "it is the LOVE OF GOD that leads a man to repentance". it is god's love and goodness that implores us to respond back to him. your question is a very good one and despite the difficult nature of the subject matter, it is actually easy to answer. before i answer, this is a time where i encourage people to spend personal time in reading god's word. that way they can know the answers for themselves. if they don't know the answer straight up(i certainly don't know everything )then they can search it out. the bible addresses every question about who god is and how he work's and why he created us and how this "mess" will end. take the time to dig up the treasure found there. the answer to your question boils down in the first place as to whether the person actually knew god in the first place. you and i "try" and make judgements about whether or not a person knows god. we look over thier life with our "fine tooth comb".we search for signs of "life".do they say the things we think that they should be saying? do they go to church ? (we seem to like it better when they go to the same church as us).is there a change in there life, are they different now? do they have a "fish" symbol on thier car (lol).are they moral. when they "slip" we say "i am not so sure now". so it is somewhat difficult for you and i to know if that person made thier deal straight with god or not. here is the good news about that-it is god's business , not ours to sort that out. he has said that there are two things that happen when someone is really following him. he (god) said: "my sheep hear my voice and they follow me"( that means obedience to his word). and he also said : you will know them (his followers) by thier "fruit". that means thier lives will be earmarked by thier love and obedience, love for others who follow christ and love/obedience toward god.the "fruit of the spirit" is love, joy, peace and patience. nobody who has ever lived or will live is/has been totally obedient to god. no one actually follows god 100%.some are more obedient than others but no one gives up all. it is because we all sin, even after we come to christ. but thank's to god's grace and mercy, he does not require perfection. he just wants us to surrender a little more each day. the more we surrender, the more that god "can" bless us. the bible teaches that if one is truly reconciled back to god THRU CHRIST, than that person is reconciled (saved) for eternity. there is no tug-o-war about salvation with god. either a person is right with god or he is not. and he CANNOT lose his salvation. the reason that no one can lose thier salvation is because it was never earned (good work's ) by them in the first place. the bible says : "for you were saved by faith, it is the "GIFT" of god, not of work's lest any man would boast".even our faith was given to us so that we would be able to believe. god gave us our faith by first showing us that he loves us, then we in turn respond back to him (faith). our faith get's built up everytime god does something in our life just as he said he would do.so here is a possible scenario. we must keep in mind that god has created us with a frre-will. you do not become a robot with no mind of your own at the time you allow christ into your life. you retain the right to choose whether or not you want to obey god or not, every day we choose. lets say that a person has truly made thier peace with god and is a "saved" individual. maybe time goes by (it doesn't matter how much time) and the person decides that he no longer want's to "follow" christ for whatever reason. do they lose thier salvation - no ! but what they will lose out on is the blessings of god thru thier dis-obedience. they will also lose out on the heavenly rewards (jewels in our crown) that god has planned for his children who do remain faithful. you can take back your life so to speak thru free will. but even if you do it, it still belongs to god. jesus said that not only does he know his sheep and they know him, he also said that he has NEVER lost "ONE" that has belonged to him. i have seen (and you probably as well ) someone who is a christian or has claimed to be one and has "faded" away. sometimes when the road gets tough or god turns up the heat to refine the fire, people will go and do there own thing because they do not want to obey him. i have seen both ways in a dramatic fashion. i have friends who lost thier 9year old daughter to a brain hemmorage who still remain faithful to god. i have witnessed the passing of one of my best friends in a car accident and then watched as his wife turned her back on christ. and the friend that passed away happened to be my pastor as well and so she was a pastors wife. when the fire gets turned up it has a way of bringing to the surface what it is that a person really believes about god. it is difficult to know how you and i would react if god were to allow those situations in our lives. so with that in mind we still must understand and support the one who has turned thier back in order to show the love of god so that they might come back to his lordship. recap : for the one who remains faithful = blessings. for the one who dis-regards the commands and lordship of christ in thier life = cursings. every choice that you and i make will add up to something. it is obvious that a person that chooses to obey god will add up to an incredible life. a person who chooses to dis-regard god and "do his own thing" has no one to blame but themselves when thier life turns out bdly, at least not as well as the plan that god had intended for them. if you dis-obey god then at some point god will remove his hand of protection from you and after that - anything goes . so let me ask you ( you only need to answer yourself, not me) "what side of the fence are you on"? and also it is important to point out that god cannot be "played". he knows if you mean business. ("god is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap). let me know if i have answered your question to your satisfaction. or if you have any more. i am not like those morons on tv that beg for $$$$ while suppossedly telling people about christ. my advice is free. sorry about the tv evangelist comments, it just makes my bllod boil when i see people like that so grossly mis-represent who god is. god's love and blessings CANNNOT BE BOUGHT !!!!!!!!!
