I usually limit my lottery playing to the Pick 5 and Jackpot games and avoid Pick 3 and Pick 4 games because of the low prize amounts and the fact that the numbers have to be drawn in order to get top prize.

But today I decided to give the Pick 4 a try because the odds are "better". So I bought 25.00 worth of .50 straight wagers to get 50 tickets for the mid-day drawing. The outcome:

5 tickets had 2 matching numbers in correct position for straight set

14 tickets had 1 matching numbers in correct position for straight set

31 tickets had 0 matching numbers in correct position for straight set

AND even if the 50 tix had been played as "box", I wouldn't have hit.

This was my first and last Pick4 purchase!

If you were buying quick piks, why didn't you just buy "1"?  Or buy one for 6 or 7 draws..

If you know your number is going to hit, have patience and then KILL IT!

You never know when you will get another hit.

I really only played for the heck of it...I know the odds for Pick 4 are 1 in 10,000,  so if I was serious about it, I'd have to be prepared to chase the same numbers twice a day until eternity!

not enough "bang for the buck" in pick 3 or pick 4 for me... If I'm gonna lose anyway, may as well miss out on millions! (If lady luck ever does drop her grudge against me, I'd like to be in for a big payday ;-)  )

If I ever do feel the need to try out 3 or 4 digit games ,I'd completely skip the morning/mid-day draw, here in PA, it's computer generated.

Playing more than one ticket per game is betting against yourself.

            My two cents...

Pick 3 and 4 has the best payout-per-odds ratio of all state lottery games.  Your winnings are 50% of your odds in most cases.

The Big Game gives you $175 K to get 5 correct minus the extra ball.  The odds for that are 2.18 million to one.  Payout-per-odds ratio is 8%.

The bigger the game, the worse the payout-to-odds ratio.  And when you consider that angle with the scratch-off games, the States should be arrested for highway robbery.

If you want to make money, and if you're good, spend more on the P-3 and 4.  Win more often and you can bet them in such a way that  you won't have to pay much (if any) taxes on your wins, and it's basically anonymous.

And.......you don't have to worry about lump sum vs. annuity options;  your new-found friends and relatives won't be badgering you for a slice of your pie.

Posted 4/6:  IL Pick 3 midday and evening until they hit:  555, 347 (str8).

Sleepingdogslie  You reinforced my belief that a jackpot on anything can not be bought simply by playing more tickets and that the numbers have to either feel good from your system or gut instinct or they don't.

When GA was with Powerball and the jackpot climbed really high I bought an uncharacteristic $90+ worth of tickets to basically test whether more tickets was better.  It is indeed not IMHO.  Normally $5 on one game is a huge amount for me to spend and only if I have a hunch.

folks...do your research ... pick 3 sets of 4 numbers play the dollar amount you can afford to lose, play EACH draw. ..DO NOT change ur selections !  go with these picks each draw ... u will hit if u box them ...patience is needed.
