I concentrate on the Pick-3 because it's the best game our lotteries offer, pay-out to odds-ratio, and only 1000 to one for a "jackpot". You get 50% of the payout-to-odds with the pick 3 and 4 games. Your payoff-to-odds ratio go down condiderably with the jackpot games and are a joke at the scratch-off level. Check the back of your tickets or bet slips to see the odds for these games.
Example: IL Little Lotto gives you $5 for matching 3 out of 5 numbers (in a 5/30 game), but the odds are about 43 -1 of doing that. The payout should be at least four times that much.
Look at the back of your scratch-offs. Your payoff might be something like $10000 for a 2 million to one chance of winning.
My advice is to play the pick-3 until you have it down to a 'break-even' point and then go on to the larger games, or better yet, spend more money on your pick 3's and keep Uncle Sam outta your wallet. Especially in NJ that offers a 60-40 payout-to-odds ratio return on your Pick 3's straight. You can't get a better deal than that in the lottery except KY which does it the same way.
You'll never get that odds "advantage" in the jackpot games or scratch-off games, but at least you're closer to being on level playing ground with the State with the pick-3 and 4.
