Just curious to get a sample of the population... seems MegaMillions is always the hot topic regardless of jackpot size but powerball only gets attention when it's big...

I still like my 6/49 Maryland Lotto the best. A high enough payout that I could retire, and a lower odds than the bigger games.

It's Mega Millions for me, since that's the only Multi State game we have in Michigan. Other than Michigan Games " Windfall" but only when it gets $5 million.

Both...plus, like Bug, I play the MD lotto. I also the PA Super Six. The PA 6/69 is now $54,900,000 annuity or $32,300,000 cash. I am going to play till someone hits it, then I think I will focus on PA Cash 5 instead.

mega because of where i live.
powerball after it grows to $100 million because of where i live.
i am pretty sure my wallet could careless where the lump that is in it, came from. (because of where i live)

Me like Visiondude... Makes no difference where I get "lump." But mostly play MM. And PB when pot gets 100M or more. It's just too difficult to ride into DC to get ticket.

I wish Connecticut would try "Hot Lotto". I've been concentrating on MM the last few months (two $150 wins in July).

I chase PB, but only when it gets high. Like others, I don't have a choice as to which to play, however, for a different reason....as a contractor with the VA Lottery (at least until the contract ends Jan. 1), I am barred from playing MM. So, DC and WV get my PB bucks....

My vote goes for Mega Millions. I know I'm gonna get flammed for saying this but even with only 10 member states (soon to be 11 with Texas), Mega Million still holds the North American record for the largest jackpot ever won - $363 million. I understand why they have their record, probably because of a lower odds of winning with 1/52 mega ball, where powerball only has 1/42 powerball, which highly increases the changes of winning the jackpot.
But hey I am in the position where I can put on money in both the PP and MM. I will only play PP if it gets higher than $100 mil.

the big game - mega's predecessor held that big jackpot and the big game only had 7 member states. megamillions has never had a bigger jackpot than 180 and new york, ohio and washington joined after the rule changes and other changes from the big game to megamillions. in fact most jackpots on mega have been very small (35 or so) and the three biggest jackpots have been 180, 165 and 125 excluding the current run. powerballs biggest by comparison have been 300, 240 and 140 after their rules changed. personally i'd be happy to win either one but if i had to pick i'd say mega only because to play powerball i have to play in oregon which has a 9% income tax and mega is in my state (washington) which has no income tax

My guess is since Mega Millions has yet to reach $200 million, the seven states that sold Big Game have seen a decrease in sales, since BG had two jackpots over $300 million. The three states that joined since have never offered a $200m prize.

We know Hot Lotto will be expanding next year. As for Lotto South, AFAIK South Carolina appears to be its first new state.
