The upcoming PA Match-6 will charge $2 per play; you'll get three sets of six numbers (two of the three automatically QPed.) This is unlike PB in that the PowerPlay is optional ($1 without PowerPlay; $2 with.)
Canada has a $2 lotto (Super 7) and their 6/49 will be $2 in June; however, the Canadian dollar continues to be worth less than the US dollar.

Of course, many US instant tickets cost $2 or more; we also have seen the rare $2-per-play online game, such as the late NJ Lotzee.
This thread is about $2-per-play games that are closer to the traditional lotto format.

With todays wage structure compared to many years ago a $2.00 bet is not out of line. You can wager $0.50 and up on lottery games which is not large.
I use to go to the harness track at Saratoga springs back in the 60s and the bet back then was $2.00 per play. Wages back in the 60s was no where near what they are today. 80 to $100.00 a week then was a decent wage.

Numbers are where you find them.

Considering people snatch up scratch off tickets at $10 and $20 a pop, I don't think $2 for an online game is too much.
HOWEVER, I don't think when wagering $2 the payout rate for a 3/6 match should be your $2 back.
NJ Lotzee (original formula where you got 21 picks) was a fun game. And if you matched 2 out of 4 in some of the categories you won back $3.
It wouldn't suprise me if somewhere down the line, say in the next 10 years, some state experiments with a $10 online game.

I'd rather see a 6/42 game with tax free prizes, two bonus balls, four tickets for a dollar, 80% of the take returned to players. BobP

I remember at one time, back in the late 70's, before on-line computer printed at the spot tickets, Pa. had a $5 weekly draw game; I don't remember the exact name of it, but it had a horse racing theme. I beleive matching a single digit number paid $10. But as in most games, the total payout was probably between 35-40%.
No, I don't beleive $2 nowadays is too much for a lottery ticket. Yeah, 50 cents used to buy one, as did the unheard of price of a dollar. Just the rate of inflation and the value of a dollar. How times have changed. Used to be that one could buy a $1 scratch ticket and play it while drinking a 5o-cent bottle of beer. now the beer cost more than the ticket.

Rhode Island for years had a $1-per-play lotto that worked more like a $2 game; a $1 bet could win only the jackpot. You had to make a $2 ("insurance") wager to be eligible for a lower-tier prize.
Furthermore, the jackpot started at $30,000 cash. However, if the first prize pool reached $200,000, it changed to an 11-payment annuity, with NO cash option.

I like the idea of a $2 ticket if there was a bigger audience, ie., Mega or PowerBall. I think we would have some collosal jackpots then. I also like the idea of nightly draws in those two games. I think there are other options to get big jackpots than messing with the odds.

i DON'T like the idea of a $2 play. lotteries that are poorly run (like mega) and producing small jackpots need to change the game not the cost per ticket. the only thing they would do is stop the $1 only players from playing which i'm sure is a lot of players. the amount of money that each player plays is already kind of set. i certainly don't plan on spending more

Texas had a $2 lottery game called Texas Millions. It failed after couple years. I didn't play because the extra dollar bought quick picks generated by the lottery. Because they had control, they were in a position to decide how many of those quick picks would win. Not many!
Personally, I wouldn't object to a $2 lottery, if the secondary prizes are substantial. I'm tired of the $2, $3, $5 prizes now prevalent in all Texas on-line lottery games.
