Mega Millions does it again.
It set a new 4-roll record for the March 19 draw with its $36 million jackpot. The previous 4-roll record was $35 million. The Powerball 4-roll record is $38.6 million.
I predict that Mega Millions will continue to set records until the jackpot is won because sales in Texas (the last state to join Mega Millions) are starting to take off.
Even though Texas has the largest population (22 milion) of all the Mega Millions states, its sales lagged behind many of the other states. For example, during the runup to the record $239 million jackpot, tickets sales in Texas were in 5th place at best. States such as Georgia with a population of only 8 million had higher sales. But then this can be expected since Mega Millions was new to Texas players and new lotteries take time to catch on.
Now for the last 6 draws, ticket sales in Texas have been in second place behind only New York. New York sales are almost double those in Texas with a population of 2.5 million fewer people. Then again Texas may never catch New York with New York's long time history with the "numbers game" and higher concentration of people in urban areas.
In summary, with sales steadily increasing in Texas, the Mega Millions jackpot roll records will continue to be broken.
Good luck,
