  Jackpots get really big because the lotto takes in more money than it pays out and some of that money is applied towards the jackpot.  Basically, it gets really big because of a bunch of losers.

  I had read an article in the newspaper that said 70% of the tickets sold were quick pick and 30% were people's own chosen numbers.  Now if you take that into account along with the fact that they will repeat numbers and the odds of you actually winning the jackpot.  You can see why it can take awhile for the jackpot to be hit and the large jackpot amounts.

  I don't believe that those figures are correct! Majority could be 51% to 60+?

  no dought auto lotto wins more but jackpots seem to get higer when people

  play more but I see alot of people playing the same cards every week too!

  Yup, when there's 10-20 million tickets sold vs. 130 million combinations available, you're only covering 7-15% of the numbers, and that's if there aren't any repeaters.

  yes i don't think the poll covers what generates jackpots - bad odds + a lot of people buying loosing tickets (short rollovers)
