I heard that a few years ago a Houston, Texas law firm paid some students to fill out 30,000+ lottery tickets to win the state's lottery and they won.

Has anyone heard if this story if true or not?

You should check the source that you heard it form.  People hear things all the time that nobody ever said.

i remember an australian company printed out slips, and tried to buyout the game by playing every number combination, but all lotteries make sure that a jackpot game is never bought out by one person or group.  if someone is purchasing several tickets at a time, then the lottery will slow down the machine, or they will ask for the terminal to be shut off.  some lotteries, such as CT, will only allow the sale of 100 tickets to one person at a time.  after 100 tickets, the person has to get back in line.
